What is the right age to start golf

Guys,

I'm intending to start my daughter for lessons.
She is turning 4 in Oct.

Do you think this is a good age to start?
Should she join a group or individual?
Any good coach to recommend?

From my experience (purely my views)

4 a bit young

Kinder golf waste time and money honestly

Learn from a proper pro

Learn in a group to make it fun (and competitive)

My eldest started at 6, while my youngest at 4.

They are now 8 and 6.

The elder one is able to follow instructions more at 6 while the 4 is for fun.

That's a million $$$ question. Tread it carefully as at this tender age, it may be counter productive. I started my girls at 8 & 5 yrs. my son started at 3.5 yrs. they progress at different speed. Boys generally have better "ball sense". He had his PC when 5 and handicap when 6. Not many coaches are "train" to handle kids.

At this age, they generally don't take instructions very well. They see things at a different level. My take is to develope their fundamental motor and movement skills first. Do some research and see how kids are develop in other countries. TPI will give you some ideas.

At 4, they don't have strength to swing the club, mainly just putting and small chipping, main thing is to have fun. You can do it at home to keep their interests.

They take lessons on TPY.. Lawerence.

Not yet.. although their balls are straighter.. but lack distance.

I think its ok to start them as early as 4 or 5. But most importantly, they must find it enjoyable. Don't kill off their interest when they are that young. And don't deprive them of their precious childhood.

Some of us start at 30, which is ok too

any recommendation for a coach that is good with children?

My daughter aged 6 this year is undergoing the Seletar Junior Program.
Coaches like Justin Han, Kim Baldwin and Brian Galvin are all nice people and coaches.
Next year when my son turns 4, probably will put him there as well.

My parents started me at age 9 and I'd stopped playing by 16 - i stopped enjoying it but still played lots of other sports at well. Was lucky enough to trial for England schools at football and also played county cricket.

I've recently started playing golf again and loving it at the tender age of 32 Wink

As the others have said...Let your daughter play for enjoyment.

Super excuse for father/daughter time at the range and at the course though!
