| Get a 3I or even 2I and start hitting. Long iron is a great training club for both speed and accuracy. They have smaller sweet spot area compared to woods and top-duffs are more prominent compared to drivers. At the end of the day, even if you aren't getting any clubhead speed gains, you pretty much gonna pure your long irons if you didn't give up. | |

| Would you be wanting a higher club head speed for discussion and statistics, or for longer hitting distances? To get higher speeds on launch monitors the sustainable way, strengthen your core, glutes etc. To use equipment, try adding 3/4 inch to each of your clubs and see what you get. For real world increase in ball speed you need to factor in smash factor, which is ball speed over club head speed. This is primarily determined by the quality of strike - how much of your club head speed is converted to ball speed. The higher the smash factor the better your contact, and you will see your shots flying further more consistently. | |

| Thanks for all your input. Tried lighter, longer (by 0.5 inch). Difference is marginal. Can't handle more than 0.5 inch longer.
Kept sale swing speed and same temo, so as not to loose out on mishit. Ball impact is quite the same as standard length shaft. Kinda at my wits end as to what else is needed apart from changing the golfer himself!

| LOLOLOLOL ... "7. Start posting on golfwrx" ... Seems like the average swing speed in that forum is 110mph with the long hitters matching Bubba and the longest ones should be competing on REMAX Long Drive World Championships Back to topic ... my 2 cents Swing speed is important ... ball speed is more important ... but launch angle and spin rate also very important ... (I am assuming you want more distance with acceptable direction) If you have tried lighter and longer and it does not work ... why not try heavier and shorter? Keep an open mind and try various stuff until you find something that feels comfortable ... after that ... go see a Golf Pro with a launch monitor and work on how to swing that club to optimise distance ... end of the day ... it is really still the Indian ... but the right arrow can either facilitate or hinder training ... | |

Try lighter grip pressure.. allowing the club to release thru at impact.

Lighter shaft may not necessary give you distance ... It may balloon the ball instead ... Alot depends on the individual because the DNA of golf swing varies from individual to individual ... Better to evaulate using Trackman or Flight Scope ... My 2 cents' worth ...

| Text taken from internet Weight
- Lighter shafts produce increased swing speed and distance, but can result in a loss of accuracy. Standard driver shafts range from 50 to 90 grams. Professional long distance competitors have even lighter shafts which are sometimes less than 40 grams. Choose a shaft weight that feels right in your hands. Many golfers prefer heavier shafts because it prevents them from rushing their swing. Distance is a result of timing as much as it is swing speed, and a lighter shaft may rush your swing.

| Has anyone experiment with a lighter driver head (probably a Japanese brand) and a light shaft (50g range)? Do you actually gain any swing speed?
BTW Longer club is not always faster. I had a 45.5 driver and a 44 inch driver. The swing speed I got from a launch monitor (must be super accurate), is almost the same.

| Why do you want to increase clubhead speed ? Should the question be : "How to increase ball speed?" or "How to increase my distance with Driver/ Iron" .
You can increase the ball speed or distance without changing your swing or tempo. Easiest way is to increase your smash factor. Meaning hit the ball right at the sweetspot of your clubhead. And if you combine that with the correct lauch angle of your driver, your distance will increase - and no change to your swing or tempo would be required ;0
Btw, what is your current Swing Speed now ?

Btw, what is your current Swing Speed now ? Increase in club head speed means that for those of us who doesn't have the 'spot on' smash factor of 1.45 or greater can still get some distance on higher percentage of off centered and non-compressed shots You're right though, consistent smash factor should be achieved first then you can increase head speed or swing speed go get even further distance.

Hit the sweet spot every-time + the club face has to be dead square for optimal smash factor. i.e. no loss of energy Also keep in mind as soon as you start talking about smash factor, you're talking about the swing efficiency.

| If you have the time, go set up an appointment at BFG and get your swing analyzed on Trackman by Atiq. from there, you'll have an idea of which aspect of yr swing to improve for maximum results. | |
