Basically because the driver has a lower loft than a FW and hence needs higher swing speed to optimize the distance. That is one reason as to why many people with slower swing speed use high lofted driver for better launch and lower spin which equate to better distance.

Another reason is the driver usually has longer shaft length and hence take sometime for one to improve on the technique of hitting longer club. One important tip is make sure u hit on a slightly accending angle upon impact to achieve optimal launch angle. For FW wood, the AoA is slightly negative.

It's perfectly normal to use a FW toenter off instead of driver. Pespecially so when playing on narrow hole

It is ok to tee off with FW. I even tee off with my iron for those par 3 holes less than 140m.

TS,

From my observation (3w - 180m & Driver - 150m), your ball must be flying very high up when u tee off using driver bcos u are hitting down on impact.

What u can do is address ur driver abt 1-2" before the ball to "force" yourself to hit up to impact the ball for a better flight and distance.
