PostSubject: Mizuno Fitting   Mizuno Fitting I_icon_minitimeFri Dec 04, 2009 11:53 pm

Hi guys, understand there are quite a few mizuno owners here. I'm considering to get the mp 58. I have never own a set of mizuno before and hence a couple of questions here. Hope u guys can enlighten me. Thanks.

1. If you get from Golf House, do they do fitting for you?
2. Is it free?
3. What is included in the fitting session (adjust lie, change grip, shaft etc)

Actually I intend to get a set of mp 58 with nspro 750 and regrip with those fanciful golf pride grips. Of course I need to adjust the lie according to my height and length of my hand etc.....Does GH provide all this service. Who will do the fitting for me? Is it Jeff?

I got myself fitted at GH Marina Sq. The fitter was William, I think. A simple chap and easy to speak with.

Fitting took about 40 minutes. Come dressed in golf gear since you'll be doing quite a bit of swinging.

My answers to your questions:

1. Yes, GH has fitters.
2. It costs $100 but I think it is provided free during the sale. If not, the $100 is absorbed if you buy a set. Best to check with GH.
3. They make you swing a 6i several times, with and without balls. They measure your swingspeed, angle of attack etc. They then recommend irons, shafts, lies which are suitable. They also check your grips to make sure that the clubs come suitably grip for you.

(Before you swing, they'll make you complete a rather detailed questionnaire about your game. The information is useful to help the fitter understand how you play better and make suitable recommendations.)

Once done, it takes about 2-3 days to get your clubs. Of course, you'll have to pay for them first.

HTH Smile

Shit! I was thinking to go down on Mon wearing office attire. Does this make it inaccurate on the fitting?

I actually like the tweaking of the lie since from reading (and this was confirmed by the fitter) that the lie of the club actually makes a big difference. Unlike professional golfers, most amateurs aren't as flexible with their swing and find it difficult to change their swing to suit the lie of the club (esp. off-the-rack clubs). Tweaking the lie will allow the clubs to suit the golfer.

I'm not sure how effective all of this is, to be honest, as I've not had a chance to play my irons. For what it's worth, the experience was quite good. I think there are other places which do a better and more thorough job but I'm happy.

Hopefully, the efforts are worth it.

It's a simple question. Imagine playing golf with your office attire - how comfortable would you be? How natural would it feel? Ultimately, you want to tweak the clubs to suit you as a golfer (rather than a office worker). Take the effort to come dressed as you would play golf. It makes a big difference.

Note that you'll be swinging about 50+ times (this includes test swings w/o balls and actual swings with balls) so you want to be comfortable.

I supposed that this weekend the fitter will be very busy with so many pple buying from the sales. Does this make him less focus when attending to 50 fittings than 5 fittings on wkdays?

I think with more people doing fittings, he will have less time to spend with you. Note also that the fitting is done in the same room where people can demo clubs. So, there's pressure to complete the swing test asap. Obviously, when there are more people, they may rush it. You would want more time so that you can feel comfortable with your irons. They'll make you try a few irons with varying shafts. They'll also measure your swing speed etc, determine where you strike the ball on the club head (using the cool carbon paper) and ascertain your swing angle etc.

I would recommend doing it without the time pressure. I think it's easier for both you and the fitter.

The short Malay guy is actually quite nice. I think it's because he knows that I can speak Malay so he's friendly with me. He does encourage me a little but doesn't force me into buying.

I think "the lie of the iron head" matters similarly as when you are hitting uphill or downhill; if it is upright (toe up), it tends to draw (right to left) becos of the ball spinning anti-clockwise; and vise versa, the ball tends to fade.

There is a recent topic on ball downhill / uphill: why balls below feet always go Rt?

Yup, my irons are +2° upright. I think Robert Karlsson, who's 6'6", should be playing to about a +3° or +4° because his clubs hang steeper from being as tall as he is.

Its also preference of shaft lengths, and how comfortable you like to be bent over or how much knee flex you prefer.

Lots of varying factors Smile

I told them that I was keen on the MX-300s but they asked that I also swing the MX-200s and the MP-58s. They offered the MP-68s for a swing but I politely declined. Actually, I said "you must be insane" Razz

I liked that they didn't push me into taking one club and gave me the option of trying the other clubs Smile

If you really intend to buy a new set of mizzies, call Jeff to book a fitting session and a 1 hr slot will be blocked for you (no demo interference from others but don't be late)

Mizuno ultilised a simple fitting process using the shaft optimizer - a small gadget attached to the shaft. When you hit the golf ball, the device will show the club speed, tempo, 'toe down', 'kick angle' & release factor (not sure if I use the correct terms) These datas which translate to the 'loading' of the shaft will help to determine the selection of the shaft.

If you are consistent, 3 strikes with the same reading on the optimzer will bring you to the next step of hitting your preferred club model with the few recommended shaft range. Impact stickers / lie angle checks........communicate with your fitter during this part for your personal feel / comfort level with the recommended shafts. Finally, confirmation of shaft, length, lie & grip size are determine.

Be warned, there are no fancy launch monitors to show you ball flight, launch, hitting distances, swing path............

My 5 cents worth......

my previous 2 sets were custom fitted on open range by 2 different class A club fitters. One with trackman and one without, guess what, they came out with the same recommendation. This goes to show that a clubfitter tht knows his stuff do not need to rely on machines (fancy machines are there more for yr satisfaction). Fitting session lasted abt 90mins and consisted of static (10min) and dynamic fitting which are self explanatory.

What I would say is that do not expect miracle to happen overnight. a bad swing is still a bad swing, no club adjustment can cure that. No

in my experience, what significant abt custom fitting is tht it makes the bad shots not so bad..

just my humble opinion.
