Tokyo Trip

Hi guys,

i will be heading to tokyo for holiday this coming weekend, will be staying at the Shinjuku and Roppongi areas for 5 days.
Did a bit of searching in the forum for some tips and realized Tokyo is like a haven for limited japan release only items and accessories.  Very poisonous even for a noob like me.

Read that Victoria Golf near Shinjuku station is worth a trip as well as the golf sections in Isetan.
- Does anyone have any tips on the "die die cannot miss" shops in tokyo? 
- or possibly anything near shinjuku and roppongi?
- Would JDM stuff be cheaper in Tokyo? bags, accessories, clubs, etc  

any help is greatly appreciated!!!   

the stuffs in Japan are not cheap... however, you won't be able to find some of them outside Japan...

You should spend your time exploring the city and all its history.
Stuff isn't cheaper in Japan, just some JDM items not easily available anywhere else...

If you go only one golf place in Tokyo, then it's gotta be Victoria Golf in Shinjuku. I suppose you know where it is, but if not, it's opposite Takashimaya Time Square.

The regular priced JDM items are expensive, but sometimes are you get good stuff at the clearance racks. Bring your passport along in case you spend more than 10k yen and qualify for tax rebate.

If you're looking for used items, Ameya-Yokocho in Ueno has a few shops selling used stuff, but so-so only.

Victoria is a good place to shop and look at what Japan has to offer for golf. Another place you can go when exploring around is BIC camera. They have a golf section as well.

Sounds like Victoria Golf is the most recommended place to go.... 
Now to convince my wife I should detour there for a few hours LOL. 
The Jap driver covers and accessories look really different/unique based on what I've seen online.

Just drop your wife at Takashimaya. There's 14 levels there to keep her busy :-)

Blessed to finally make the trip to Tokyo. Managed to sneak in a few hours of golf shopping.

1. First stop to Victoria Golf at Shinjuku. Used google maps to direct me to the shop. Bought lots of characters balls (Mickey, Stitch, Minnie, Donald Duck etc). Good for giving as presents. Huge selection of clubs and a whole floor dedicated to woman golf. Bought lots of accessories (pitch mark repair tool, ball markers, head covers, etc). Damage ~ $500. Heng brought along my passport for tax free shopping.

2. Next stop was Ueno, where there are 4 golf shops. Headed straight to Festival Golf to look for cheaper second hand clubs. There is even a hitting area to test clubs and stats provided (yardages, launch angle, spin, etc). Found an excellent condition Labospec driver with Roddio shaft. Also found a Diamana Thump for $30. Lots of other used driver shafts (e.g. Diamana, Roddio, Speeder, Bassara, Tour AD) on display and reasonably priced but did not need any more at the moment, so skip. Almost cheong a Tourstage X Blade 707 Forged for $700. 

After that went to Nikki Golf and some other golf shops along the way back to the train station. Found used coloured Tourstage/Newing/XXIO/Kira-Star balls for $1 each. All in all a very fruitful trip!

Should have asked you to buy some shafts for me, hahaha.

Missus asking me where to go for short trip in July - Taipei, Jeju, Tokyo..
My mind only have Hua Hin (Black mountain golf), Tokyo (golf stuffs)... Need to propose strategically...

Bring along a Sunday bag to hold the clubs, shafts and balls. Ask the shop to bubble-wrap nicely for you. It is advisable to remove any plastic coverings if you are getting new clubs.

Thanks for the review bro pug.. I have a friend also recommend Victoria Golf.. Shop till wallet pok.. Lol.. Another good thing about shopping golf stuff in jeepun is that they have many limited jdm products that only stays in Japan.. So if u bring it back confirm damn rare.. And jdm products are usually very chio IMO..  

Yes you're right. Found a JDM wedge for Mrs Pug that is made for ladies. The head is the same but the shaft is lighter and the grip is a nice baby blue colour (compared to boring black for man). Bought a sleeve of Honma golf balls as well.

I have been to Golf Partner as well for used clubs. The used balls are cheaper but the selection is much smaller. I guess rental in Japan must be really expensive. I saw a used Fujikura Speeder there selling for $330. For that price I can get a brand new one in SG.

Btw when was ur trip ? I also just came back from Tokyo .. Only manage to make a trip to winwin style shop to get my dream bag ... Hoping to go back japan next year to shop again ... Ha ha  

For those that bought golf clubs from overseas, I assume you will check them in as baggage? Will that incur additional handling fees since the woods or drivers are longer than the usual luggage size?

As per check in luggage...only the total weight applies....30kg for most airlines.

I drop by victoria golf every time I'm in Tokyo, but can never seem to find anything to buy. They have lots and lots of the standard stuff, not very much different from what you can find in our local Isetan golf section or far east shopping centre. If you're looking for more high end jap brands like DWD or winwin style, you will be disappointed with victoria.

During my last trip in March, I chanced upon the sports (to the japs, sports=golf) section on the ground floor of Odakyu shopping centre. I'm sure this was recently set up... The whole place is dedicated to golf, lots of japan-only clothing lines and accessories. All tax-refundable, like victoria. I literally revamped my whole golf wardrobe just from this one place.

Oh and if anyone is looking to get some new shoes, google Adidas Adizero ONE Boa. Only available in japan, very very nice...

Must do the Pinx, was there last Sept... It's one of the Top 100 courses outside of the USA.

Then there are so many more courses on that island... So many many more.
