Install a wood shaft into a Hybrid

Morning.

I had an old famous UL440 shaft that was in my driver.
It is stiff flex.
It is about 60g.

I am thinking of installing it into my Titleist 913H 21* hybrid (40")
I want to make it Regular flex --> need to soft stepped.
The weight is about right (currently, the 913H has the light Bassara Shaft ~ 60g)
The question is how much should I trim to make it drop from stiff flex to Regular flex?

its not an issue to install a driver shaft (.335) into a hybrid (.355 or .370). it will deliver a nice whip but it must be tipped correctly. i have seen many installations where the technician made the mistake of tipping too much and as such, the shaft have lost the necessary kick.

a driver weights about 200g and assuming you have a stiff driver shaft, you will probably have to tip by another 2 to 3 inch for the 235+ hybrid head. as a rough rule of thumb, every 5 g will require 1/2 inch tip to achieve the same frequency (this may vary depending on shaft built)

if you want to play to a regular, it will still require 1 to 2 inch of tipping. Please bear in mind that every inch cut will reduce the shaft weight by 1 to 1.5 g. in your case the 440 UL is about 57 g on a driver (45 inch) and when you cut this to a hybrid length (40 inch), the shaft weight will be reduced by 5 to 7.5g. this means that your shaft will weight about 52g on the hybrid. 

in my opinion 52g for a hybrid is a tad too light.

An old uncle dropped by the shop the other day to replace his driver shaft.  He broke it during a travel to the East of Indonesia.  An old Graman 55, broke right at the tip.

At the same time he was complaining about his Basarra 60 hybrid shaft being too heavy, so I 'fixed' his Graman 55 and put it in the 17* hybrid that he has.  Works wonder.  The ball launch great on the course and goes as long, if not longer at times, as his 4 wood.

Idea. 
Ul440 is sitting there. 
That why Thot of putting it to "good" use.
