| faced with a 10 footer, i can usually make half of them if it's a par putt. but when it's a birdie putt, i'd be lucky if 1 in 10 dropped.
is there any mental adjustment that i can make to improve my make rate?

| Here's a blog I wrote recently, which explains the challenging we're faced with on the green, some ideas on mental approach and what is realistic as it relates to make percentage on the PGATour. http://www.sggc.com.au/2013/12/09/stop-trying-so-hard-on-the-greens-your-not-that-good/ Look forward ti hearing your feedback | |

| It's true that when I don't care, I putt better
I putt very well on the practice green compared to during the game

| Each time on the green, I just tell myself it is a must make putt regardless if its for birdie, par, bogey, d.bogey to win the hole. Juts put it close the hole.
But it seldom works because flight mates are very good at screwing with my mind

| Reverse psycho.... treat every putt as birdie putt... make sure only one putt... more than one is par, more than 2 is double par...
Easy to say though... i only managed to get one 1 putt in this morning. rest two putt (first putt stop next to hole)

Bro, That's quite stressful if u think of it. For me I usually aim for 2 putts (1st one to get within a putter's length and then go for dough) If can go in with 1 putt, it's a bonus of birdie but usually it's bogey which I m very happy Liao.

| The mental thought is "Don't think too much"! Once you read the line of putt, just picture the path to sink the ball into the blardy hole ... | |

| I think all of us have to aim realistically. Its like how when you start golf, its not realistic to aim for par every hole. You start from aiming double bogey game, move on to bogey game etc. Reason is because its easier to perform when you are relaxed than under pressure isn't it? By aiming 2 putt every hole, regardless of birdie or bogey putt, I think we can all putt better and more confidently for 1st putt. After all, we all play golf to enjoy the game. Why put yourself under perpetual pressure? (I'm not speaking on behalf of people who play to win money... ) | |

(I'm not speaking on behalf of people who play to win money... ) some people performs better under pressure, the higher the pressure, the better they perform. Money is one of the most direct way to increase the pressure

| A great putter once said: If one feels pressure when putting, more often than not, the ball won't find the hole. Over the ball, if one can feel the distance in their hands with the practice stroke and see the ball tracking the break in their mind, then there's a very good chance it's going to be close or in the hole. | |

| For me ..the mental portion is nothing to do with technique....its more of having confidence with the line. I suck at.reading line.
So...how to mitigate...???? I aim for 2 putt...or try to chip nearer
