Probably because he's at the front end of the trucks, so if he falls, less likely to get rolled over by the trucks.

Wow.... Van Den be probably gettg huge commercial amt to act in this Volvo monster trunks ad! Even if they were travellg reverse way, its damn tough to stable the steerg wheel fr the perfect line! Respect him w his highest level skill! Tx Turbo bro fr sharg.

I love the JCVD version. Best commercial I've seen in a long time.

Volvo is one of my customers and indeed a true form of their technology and Swedish safety culture! The trucks are indeed moving in reverse, if not, I think the stunt is not possible for safety and physics reasons
This dynamic steering technology is meant to give the truck driver total control at low speed and good stability in high speeds, hence reducing the fatigue for the driver over long distances!!
Volvo has a big truck production plant in Gent, Belgium, hence not surprising that they hired the Muscles of Brussels to do this advert, btw at 53, JCVD is da man!!
Maybe in Asia, Jackie Chan could do something similar??
