| ok so this is old news and I'm a few seasons too late. the odyssey backstryke has been around for a while. the concept of an onset putter has been around even longer. but i'm just going to share my experience anyway
I'm very left eye dominant, and so i prefer to line up my ball closer to my front foot at address for my putts. This creates a slight problem because most putters come with an offset, which means that the putter head is designed to sit behind the shaft. What this means is that when the putter head is placed nearer my front foot, the shaft also moves towards the target line, and away from where my hands are if i were to let my arms hang naturally. In essence, putters with offset do not allow me to hang my arms naturally at address.
Recently, i went to the golf bargain sale and chanced upon a backstryke blade going for just $79. I bought it on a whim since it was going for such a good price.
Long story short, this is the first time I actually feel natural and in balance at address with a putter. The onset allows the putter face to be placed nearer my front foot, whilst keeping the shaft and grip in line with my hands in their natural postion. The outcome is that I'm able to put a consistent roll on the ball with greater ease.
I know that one man's meat is another man's poison and i'm not suggesting that this is THE CURE. however, i'll strongly encourage left-eye dominant players who have yet to try out this putter to have a go at it.
Cheers! | |

| I also tried the backstryke at the HBF golf fair. My experience was that even though it is a mallet putter, it is not as stable as a mallet should be.
The putter seems to twist alot and shake alot from the back swing to the down swing. It is not as stable for my pattern of swing.
Not sure if others feel this way.
My thghts then were "fairly new model and in good condition but at so low price......no wonder, so poorly balanced" thats why only $79 when others cost more.

| i guess putting and putters really just about individual preference.. but $79 is such a good price! | |

Haha ya I thought the same thing too when I first saw it. And the price is definitely a good indicator of demand, or in this case, the lack of it It is safe to say that this is not a popular putter amongst golfers. Which is why I felt like I should write a review on it so that others will not write it off before giving it a try

| Thanks for sharing, that explains why the scotty futura (the old one) felt the way it did. Hmmm, was thinking it might be the u design. | |

| Bro Scottycollector how can you use an Odyssey putter? Get your hands on the Futura man, similar concept to backstryke | |

| Hahaha ya it's very ironic I actually used to have the old futura but it never quite worked cos the putter head is too huge for my liking. The backstryke blade is just nice | |

| the patent belongs to the original founder of Odyssey who sold his company to Callaway.
both Scotty and Styx have paid licences to use this design and both have not found a lot of success.
of course all the patent and trademark rights now belong to Callaway, hence we are not likely to see another brand using this design for now.
hope it helps...... | |
