the fact that someone won the US Open with a particular putter or that 150 other people have bought one, certainly isn't a key consideration.

Dun get me wrong ... I am not implying that one should consider the putter based on those facts mentioned by you above ... I am merely creating some noteworthy news here in case some ppl aren't aware of it ... Very Happy

To me, the brand of the putter should not be the main consideration ... Whats the point if one who invests in an expensive SC putter but cannot hole a 3 foot putt most of the time? Agree?

Perhaps something was left out in the mention of the TM Spider Blade putter and why it's making waves.

Turbo does have a point, I've tried the Spider Blade myself and I'm blown away by how stable it is and how easy it is to control the stroke and yet keep it smooth. I could literally take a one inch stroke easily, try that with your regular blade. Counter balancing is the new thinking and tech behind this season's flatsticks. In part, a response to the banning of anchoring.

Anyone who's got twitchy hands like me, or has an inconsistent stroke, or who doesn't want to go to a mallet would do well to check out the Spider Blade and others like it. If you're wondering why they come in such odd lengths of 35 and 38 inches, it's because you have to choke down about 3 inches on the grip for it to work. No cutting of the shaft please.

It's not a joke anymore, now you can literally buy yourself a putting stroke.

High 5 to you, bro Birdie! Taylormade

I was simply amazed & overwhelmed when I first got my hands on it ... After test-putted it for more than 45 mins or so at the shop, I fall in love with this sweetie & bought it without hesitation ... Moreover, it was reasonably priced ... The good thing about this latest techno is that, I don't need to think too much about mechanics ... All I need to do is, juz swing normally and let gravitational force does the rest ... I was pleased that my putt on regulation improved dramatically ... bounce  I thought my ex low cost Cleveland putter was the best for me till I chanced upon this Spidey Blader ... Cool

Moral of the story is that, don't juz go for those expensive well known putters ... explore your options and you never know what you missed ... You're paying tonnes of $$$ to those top golfers who endorse those well know brands of putters ... Very Happy

No sure bro ... As far as I know the Spidey Blader is currently out of stock ... TM Sg only left with the Spidey Mallet ... The latter is suitable for golfers whose putting strokes are straight back & forward ... Cool

Like i said, i'm sure Taylormade makes decent putters, and i'm not doubting the fact that the spider blade is doing wonders for (at least 150) golfers in Singapore. all i'm saying is that one shouldn't be caught up in the hype of taylormade or any other golf company's marketing, including scotty cameron, odyssey etc. [If you look at my original post, u will notice that "brand of putter" was not listed as any one of the key considerations in choosing a putter.]

for one, Taylormade's 'revolutionary' design has in fact been around for a long time. just look up Heavy putter by Boccieri, Tour Lock pro etc. Counterbalancing is nothing new. But as always, Taylormade with their impressive marketing will have you believe that you are buying breakthrough technology.

Very valid point on not just buying into the marketing SC, considering how strong brand names like TaylorMade or even individuals like Bob Vokey and Scotty Cameron are. I don't think there's any dispute where this point is concerned. Very Happy

It was the technology that happened to be behind the Spider Blade that awed Turbo and myself. Speaking of which, Counterbalancing though not new, is the new thinking this season.

For sure it's been around for some time, it just hasn't caught on or been brought to the attention of the general golfing public who buy regular off-the-shelf products. Metal woods for example were invented back in the 50s. They were heavy magnesium heads and were loaners at driving ranges. TaylorMade then commercialised it in the 80s as Pittsburgh Persimmon. So when a major manufacturer and equipment juggernaut like TaylorMade dusts off the cobwebs and brings such technology to the golfing masses for the first time, the perception is that it is new, and isn't perception reality? Some people believe Steve Jobs invented the mouse in 1980, when in reality he just made it commercialy viable. TaylorMade may again be doing the same thing here with counterbalancing.

So along with all the very sensible key considerations in choosing a putter mentioned so far, perhaps it may be time to consider counterbalancing as well.

It's now inexpensive and globally available off the shelf for the very first time. Very Happy

Thanks bro Turbo. Very Happy

For the benefit of the curious and those seeking an alternative solution to the dreaded 3 putt, here's a Golf Digest video that explains counterbalancing, which like ScottyCollector said, is not new technology. Worth a watch. Very Happy

Agree with SC and Hubert.  Don't get caught into putter company marketing and think spending much more will be right.  Besides the technical point, a putter needs to suit the comfort of the person and you need to feel be very very confident with it to make it work for you.  The other part of putter is also the grip size, some like Superstroke, some like smaller grips, some like tradition midsize.

Try yr friends and borrow them for a game before u decide.

To be honest, I am personally immuned to TM's marketing strategies and to the way TM brands her equipment like fashion apparels ... I bought the TM Spidey Blader purely because it really works for me ... If you notice (only if u are keen), I don't own a single piece of TM club in my bag before my latest investment ... I have been using a number of putters in the past, I therefore know reasonably well what suits me ... so to speak ... Smile

I am one who does not follow the masses ... I love to explore equipment especially those which are reasonably priced ... Cool

I like heavy blade putters as I have a better feel. There are suggestions that certain green speed are suitable for certain putter weight. This can be true but nevertheless, I still like my putter to be heavy. Very Happy

i have so many putters and the only one outside a ZEN which gave me the best result was a first generation TM long slant. really cheap putter but produce a wonderful roll and as i prefer a lighter head.

that one bring back lots of memories including beating Slinger by one stroke on the 18th, yonks back.

Any truth in the saying that slower green favors a lighter putter and vice versa for faster green?

its all personally and don't follow what you read until you have tried it yourself. there are PGA players with good putting stats who swears by using a heavier putter on faster green.

there is no right or wrong cos we are all triggered and rely on different senses to function. what works for one may be the complete opposite for another.

hope it helps.......

I am making more 2 putts with the Zen. Maybe its cos of the coaching that came along with it.

Whatever it is, I didnt look back. Sold my scotty and brought my score down to the 90s. Per 18 hole round, my number of 3 putts reduced to 2-3 holes.
