OHHHHHHHH Bubu, Mao Tai....my head starts spinning, my nose starts running and my eyes get watery.

1985, probably before most of you were even born. I was a guest of the PLA Navy for 3 days in Qingdao.
At the time the tallest building was the PLA billeting hotel about 10 stories high. Big reception in the ballroom,
about 500 people (our 'handlers" included), big dinner, lot of food (most of which I had never seen before nor could I
describe as to the origins!!). Our hosts then roll out bottles upon bottles of Mao Tai and shot glasses. Needless to say the taste and flavor took some getting used to........reminded me of alcohol infuzed Battery Acid!!. But we all took part and at the end of the evening we could barely find our way back to our rooms. Great time had by all.

During my next trip to Qingdao a month later I decided to reciprocate the hospitality of our PLA hosts. We treated our hosts to a small dinner in a local restaurant. I brought 4 bottles of Cuervo Tequila that I bought in Japan, broke out the shot glasses, salt and lemon and the festivities commenced. At the end of the night, not only were we and our hosts and handlers BLOTTO'd, but the restaurant staff including the cook could hardly walk.

I like to think our adventure played a miniscule part in thawing relations between the US and PRC.
