If you win certain tournaments, you are awarded certain number of points. Obviously if one participated in the event, he will be awarded pts. The no. of pts depends on which position he ends up. Event like Major Championship carries very high points versus normal PGA tourneys. For example, if one always miss the cut or end up at the bottom in the tourney, his world ranking will definitely slide downsouth ... Good examples are, the once World's No. 1 Golfers, David Duval and VJ Singh.
