| Last fall TaylorMade's prototype Project 5 ball garnered some attention when Justin Rose put the ball in play at the Deutsche Bank Championship after just one day of testing. That ball now has a new name: Lethal. Before anyone snickers, lets remember there were a few guffaws about the name RocketBallz and that only became one of the best-selling fairway woods of all time. Still, the moniker is one you might expect to see for a two-piece distance ball. The technology, however, is anything but. Lethal is a five-piece construction with a soft, inner core, three mantle layers and urethane cover. According to Dean Snell, TaylorMade's VP of golf ball R&D, the ball was designed to extend flight after reaching its apex while controlling spin and producing better aerodynamics into the wind. The ball will be available at retail Feb. 1 with a retail price of $46 a dozen. | Thanks for the tip! I had doubts initially of Taylormade's ability to produce balls of any useable quality given their lack of track record, but after using their Burner series I've been happy enough to continue using them. Also, DGman's visit to that ball factory that made ALL brand-name balls made me realise there's not too much difference - a two-piece ball is a two-piece ball regardless of brand. Four and five piece balls have better feel off the putter and on short shots, but urethane scuffs pretty quickly so I've stayed away. Not to mention losing one ball is one less bowl of abalone noodles to eat. | |

I'm sure they'll know abt this also. That's why they recently drop the price of tp3 from $39 to $35 | |
