PostSubject: suitable 60deg bounce for local course condition?   suitable 60deg bounce for local course condition? I_icon_minitimeSun Dec 23, 2012 12:54 pm

hi all,
need some help - what would be suitable 60deg bounce for local course condition? Typically, I use 60deg for around the green shots, nearer greenside bunker shots and also approach full swing 60m.

I also use 56deg, 12bounce for longer around the green shots with a bit more roll, longer greenside bunker shots and approach full swing 70m.

Typically, play at RCC, OCC and gonna explore more JB and Batam/Bintan courses.

Help much appreciated. Have also searched GR and found some threads discussing this albeit a bit more generically.

thanks, bro. hope this makes sense, with 60deg wedge:

- around the green shots - chip shots. if very near, no hinge shot (very thin divot, if any) or hinge a little if hole is slightly further - thin divot (ala Phil Mickelson).

- nearer greenside bunker shots - 3/4 or full swing, deep divot.

- approach 60m - full swing, deep divot.

I'll consider a mid to high bounce , but that is only by my understanding i'll say 07 onward . It'll be preferably to get the bounces around the 10.

Bro

Some technical confusion here.

60 degree you are refering to loft of the wedge.

Bounce is 8/10/12/14/16

Most golfers understand that wedges differ by loft - typically from a 45 degree pitching wedge up to as high as 64 degrees for the most extremely lofted lob wedge. But what about the bounce angle? As the name implies, the 'bounce' (in layman's terms, the curvy bit on the sole of the wedge) enables the head to 'bounce' out of the sand or rough without snagging. On a sand wedge, for example, you'll see that the trailing edge hangs below the leading edge. Take a club and put in the address position and you’ll see a space between the ground and the leading edge of the wedge. High space = High Bounce angle.

The most bounce you'll ever see on a wedge is about 18 degrees - but it can be as low as 2. Doesn't amount to a hill of beans we hear you say. But there you'd be wrong. Using a wedge with the right combination of bounce and loft for the sort of course you play and the sort of swing you have can make a big difference to your short game. So how do you decide what’s best? Here’s a quick guide – with thanks to Cleveland golf for the imagery.

@cyp_pga: thanks

@jurongtiger: thanks. yes, understand loft vs bounce. i am looking for some recommendation on bounce value in my new 60deg wedge purchase. am currently using 60deg/12bounce but wondering if 4 or 8 or 10 bounce values may be more suitable especially when i use my 60deg wedge for around the green shots, near side bunker shots and full swing approach 60m shots in local courses. some friends say lower bounce, gives them crisp shots.
