| Seriously, I am worried in 3 yrs it will be in 150k in 3-6 months. Would super rich car junkie be serious mad enough to pay for this amount.
Crazy times.... it would have makes sense for top bidders named. Bid for more, then be famous!

| Cheap car loans are fuelling this craze. If the govt stops allowing loans on the COE portion, I'm sure premiums will drop drastically. | |

| To me, ERP is not working... So whats next ? COE... The govment gotta show they are putting in policies and efforts to control rapidly growing car population so as to limit the jams building up on our roads.. Sooner or later, the prices of cars gonna be so expensive that people will buck away from buying cars.. And Singapore, among many countries, has a reasonably good public transport system.. (not to mention the "once a while" breakdowns..) That's where they want to drive people towards.. | |

| No point commenting about Gahmen, the COE is here to stay and it will stay. So be it.
But what puzzles me more is the people (mainly Car sales men/women or company) who make all these outrageous bids. I really like to know who are they and why they bid so high?? More interesting is people who agrees to it and just accept it....dont these people feel the pinch?
The whole concept of COE bidding is totally mindless, its like Ebay, where there is no cap, any tom dick and harry can just go trigger happy to click away.

| i had several discussions with some of my customers and friends who are in the car trade, both distributors and resellers and they all said the same thing...
good news......2014 will see more COEs expiring as the big surge was during the 2004 and 2005 period.
bad news....unless the car owners who bought their cars in 2004 and 2005 give up driving, they are still likely to bid for a new COE to replace their cars.
so it means, its never going to be a good time or a bad time.
need to buy a bus guide soon cos cycling to work is not an option.

| I think the important thing is to know how deep is your pocket and learn to live within your means. If don't have a deep pocket it's better to forget about owing a car. Or if really need one, buy a used one. It won't be that painful when it come to depreciation compared to a new one.

Ha! Ha! Bro Begbie, I am not the one who initiate the complaint about the high COEs. Mine still have 5 years+ for me to decide what to do next as my car is still serving me well. So no, I would be foolish to trade off mine now knowing the used car dealers is going to rip me off. This thread made me have a peek at sgcarmart... after I saw the prices for a few of the models, I closed the window straight away.. its crazy. But then again, we complain abt everything. Especially now that prices for property are going up again, only buyers are complaining, those guys who are already owning multiple properties and sitting on their millions are keeping quiet. So now that I have already owned a car, I wont complain but keep quiet. If I was looking for a car I sure kao peh kao bu... hehehe... If u want sell your Murano let me know.. I buy slightly higher than dealer ok? I wont rip u so much.

<----Couldn't agree more with u on this. Bro begbie...I was looking thru sgcarmart too....i think a bunch of white hair suddenly pop out from my skull...from the way the used market prices look now I think in the future, I'm afraid its gonna be even crazier. I have slightly more than two years to go..I need to think of a plan now... After some coaxing on the ol brain, with the limited brain juice left at this time of nite, the only thing I can conclude is this.... "O' gods of Toto!!! A used sedan that can squeeze in 3 stand bags would be sufficient for me....oh and some spare change for some used golf toys too wld be nice.....please?".........wahahahahaha

- Bro Begbie, there are plenty of Muranos in the market. I am sure you will be spoilt for choice. Btw, we have yet to have a round since I last bought the putter from you. It's still serving me well. Love it. But hor, it will need some facial as I lost the cover at Poresia even before I tee off, right at the buggy terminal. Whoever found it is dishonest to keep it.
Haha.. Im not in the market looking for cars, was just messing with you and if I do look for any car its gonna be in a few years. with regards to the putter, it is actually a very good putter, just that I have 7 more putters at home thats sitting in front of my TV. Some things just gotta give... haha..

| I have the same thoughts as well. Normal car owners will buy a car and then sell their cars in general; supply will be high then but so it demand as I think only a small percentage of owners will give up their cars. - DGman wrote:

| COE for cars up to 1,600cc soars to new high of $92,100.
By Christopher Tan
Certificate of entitlement (COEs) for cars up to 1,600cc - long the mainstay of budget car buyers - shot through the roof at the latest tender Wednesday to set yet another record price. The premium ended at $92,100, almost $10,000 more than its previous price.
COE for cars above 1,600c ended higher as well, but at a more modest rate to $96,210, from $93,501 previously. The Open category, which can be used for any type of vehicle but ends up mainly for bigger cars, inched upwards from $95,990 to $96,101.
Commercial vehicle COE premiums ended slightly lower at $60,000, from $62,201 three weeks ago. The motorbike premium rose to $1,933, from $1,701.
Motor traders attribute the day's results to panic bidding by car dealers bent on securing as many certificates as possible before an even smaller quota kicks in from next month. A three-week interval between the latest tender and the last one also created a bigger backlog of orders, fuelling a more aggressive bidding behaviour.

| Imagine a system without COE, whole of Singapore would be caught in a traffic jam. It doesn't seem like this system is going away anytime. In fact, whose to say it will not break new grounds and cross the 200k mark. Just like housing prices. These days, its tough to flip through ST without Housing, Transport, Education headlining the HOME section.
No wonder we are an unhappy lot!
