Mizuno Owners Thread - Soft and Buttery - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Mizuno Owners Thread - Soft and Buttery   Mizuno Owners Thread - Soft and Buttery - Page 9 I_icon_minitimeMon Dec 28, 2009 8:10 pm

Hi all. Was at GH Taka today - shopping for new irons. I've used Honmas (LB727, Twin marks), TMs (R7 XR) and Clevelands (LP Launcher). Still prefer the soft feel and profile of Japanese clubs. The MX200/300 really look nice. Read most of your inputs here and other threads about Mizuno clubs. Just wondering if they will be right for me. I play at 19 and have no problems (mostly) launching the ball - most of my ball flights are quite high and relatively straight. Would like to continue using graphite shafts as I am in my mid 40s. Please let me have your unbiased / unemotional opinion Smile

BTW - the price for the MX-300 graphite was $1537 - is this a good price or could be lower in time to come? Read in previous post that the MX-300 was $799 at one time in early Dec?

Thanks in advance ....

MX-300s for $799??? No way!! I hope not. The lowest I've seen them go is for about $1.3k with freebies thrown in. They are the newest of Mizuno's cavity back irons and replace the MX-200s (which I think may have been the $799 (steel) which you saw but even that's really cheap).

If you play a 19, you will definitely be able to handle the MX-300s. You may want to consider the MP-58s too just to see if the blade suits you.

As for whether to use graphite/steel shafts, this is best assessed by a clubfitter. Age is definitely a factor (as it leads to strength) but it's not the only factor. You may be a really strong mid-40s golfer (as they may be a weak mid-20s golfer). So, I'd recommend visiting a clubfitter to determine what works best for you Smile

Thanks TS. Now I'm dizzy with excitement and confusion. Will the new Gh outlet at Orchard Central have any fitting services?

I've used NSPRO850's before. Have trouble with the 5i and 6i - sure die on Par 3. So I've switched back to graphites.

BTW, u got steel or graphites? And what price did u pay for? Thanks.

I'm using the steel NSPro shafts (Stiff Regular). I paid $1.3k for my MX-300s. Had some trouble getting used to it at first (my first set of forged irons) but am really enjoying them now. Also, they were fitted so I'm more comfortable with them. When hit sweet, they feel amazing. Almost too natural Smile

I don't know if the GH @ Orchard Central would have fitting services but I believe they would. It's supposed to be their flagship store, right? Anyway, I got my fitting done at the Marina Sq branch.

HTH Smile

Altered from off the rack. What they do is that they analyze your swing etc and then make changes to the club - they can tweak the shaft (to match your swing speed), tweak the loft (to match your swing angle) and tweak the grip (to match your gripsize).

And that's all good assuming that you don't go and change your swing which could change any of the 3 variables the clubs are set up against. Wink

I believe that fitting usually costs $100 which you can use towards the purchase price of your irons Smile But they've got varying promotions with regards to fitting. Best to check with them to see how it works.

That's great - but you should get it fitted before you play them so that they suit your swing Smile
