I think it's sinful to have a game where the winner walks away with so much money.

its all relative if you look at their sponsorship and where the real money is derived. if they do not have such a prize, they will not be able to get the top 150 to playoff in a manner that will generate TV viewership, hence sponsorship, hence ticket sales, hence prize money...its a chain reaction.

one 1-minute tv spot in Sg is probably $8k in the prime spot. in the US its in the million mark. at the end of the day its the millions of viewership that makes up the cost of advertising. so if you look at the $10 million prize money, its not that much for a season finale that reaches 311.5 million population versus Singapore's 5.18 million.

heck if TW plays at the Barclays', he is probably going to be paid 2.5 to 3 times more than the winner in appearance fee alone. at least the guys at the fedex cup are playing for no appearance an for the chance to be the best golfer on the PGA tour for the year. so $10 million bonus is justifiable for the platform and viewership it will generate for brand sponsorship and promoting PGA as the ultimate golf tour in the world.
