Fade biased driver

Hi all,

I have a fade biased driver (PRGR T3 501) that has a square face (i.e. not open or closed). Is it fade biased because of the weight distribution of the club head, or the shaft, or a combination of the two?

I like the current shaft that I'm using, but I'm just wondering if it's possible to make it less fade biased by changing the shaft? The basis of asking this is that some shafts can produce more kick and less spin?

First time i've ever heard of a fade biased driver..

Anyway from what little knowledge i have, here's my take. If you want to reduce the fade (or slice), what you want to do is to reduce side spin. And you can try to do that by increasing backspin. If you do change shafts, you should be looking for something with more spin.

i believe a driver is fade bias only if the club face is open. If the face is closed it is draw bias. If it is square it should be neutral. You must be playing a cut which could be due to many factors, wrong shaft flex which causes the club face not to close on time, swing path or open club face or combination or many other reasons.

but then again, i am not a pro nor a clubfitter...

i suggest you go to either one and you could solve your mystery. Shaft do play a part in ball flight characteristic but swing faults play a even greater role.

Hope I would not flame anyone with this suggestion to the slight fade biase problem. may I suggest without resorting to changing shaft so soon, try during set up position, grip the your handle in such a way that the club face closed slightly from your normal gripping. Align your handle in your open palm and then gently just grip the handle slowly. You will realised that the face closed slightly. Give it a try. Sometimes, in my case, when I just want to have some fun by trying to hit a ball hard especially when I have a very open fairway, though I avoided my good friend Ssquirel advice of 'HIT HARD LOOK UP' I resort to this action. In fact by doing what I just mentioned earlier the club face closed quite a bit that you can visually sees it. But you must not think of the closed face at all. Just do your normal hitting routing. It might just work. Give it a try at the range before spending your money. Just my 2 cents worth.

there are draw biased, neutral or fade biased drivers.

the can use the offset (or lack of offset) to create a hands forward, hands in line or hands slightly back to give you the setup necessary to shape the shots.

eg - Cobra offset, Burner Draw, Cleveland offset and Ping Draw

or manufacturer can place different weighting on the same head (more weight nearer to toe, behind ball or near heel) to help golfers square up at impact

eg - TM R7 or superquad weight system or Callaway drivers (weight built in head design)

lastly they can create a driver with different face angle (closed, neutral or open)

eg - Burner 08 (+2 degree), TM Tour Burner (square) or TM Tour Burner TP (-2) .

the shaft is not the main equation in set up but a consideration in launch, control and trajectory performance. meaning if the user is using a 2 degree closed offset driver with a shaft thats too weak for him, he is still going to hit a fade if his or her hands is not quick enough at impact.

PS - most golfers i have met blame their hook on their draw biased driver, but most of the time is there extension at impact rather than the face thats causing the problem.

good point...the driver's face are normally open or closed by a few degrees maximum. If you slice or hook to another fairway, it is definitely not the driver's fault

i always say that most drivers delivery 80% fairway hits...the question is which fairway....haha

A fade or draw bias with a square faced driver is possible cos of how it's weighted internally, causing a delayed or faster release of the clubhead through impact. Some just prefer a face that's set square at address, I know I do.
