| Bro, My car only got 2 more years to go and at the current COE prices, what choice have I got. In Singapore, owning a car is also similar to the effect to taking drugs for most people. Once you own a car, chances are you will not give it up as you are'hooked on'. So flood the mkt with a lot of COE for a few years then curb it and the prices will sure increases. Chain reaction from it are the cost relating to car like insurance, maint. , number of ERP, etc will goes up as well . Nowadays, the 'new' Cat for COE are :- Taxi mainly Cat A(<1,600cc) Very Expensive Car Cat B (> 1,600cc) Filthy Expensive Car Cat E (Open) COE goes high up, people will still buy as they want it (may not really need it). Maybe have to get a motorbike with sidecar; can then put golf bag in sidecar to go to range or JB for golf. - Golfbuddy7 wrote:

| COE going up.....
will it go down???? it will only go down if bank only dish out 60% loan max.
but there is a bright side to all things.....with the increased COE, it means:
1. for those who have surplus in $$$: the additional $ will be taken by garmen for re-investment into calibre of ppl in garmen and infrastructure....just think about it.....garmen must support MRT in giving fund etc
2. for those who might have enough but not as much as #1 in $$$$....this will help in ensuring they work longer and stay longer in their job. This gives stability to the employer..who in turn can be confident to reinvest and not recruit new ones who they have to pay more

| I still dont think the COE will drop within the next 2-3 years because there will be alot of cars that are due for scrap come 2014-2015. (Car plate starting SF series) and also funding for the new expressway. I have to admit, I pity those who needs a car for their work and hence they will need to buy regardless what's the price.
But there are always options out there, buy 2nd hand (although more expensive but still cheaper than brand new), renew COE for 5 years and see what happens, if COE drops and you think you can buy, then scrap your old car (COE is pro-rated fully if you scrap before the COE ends).

| The pattern of my life is always, sell then see the price of the underlying asset go up....wait to buy, and the price continues to increase, i kancheong to buy only to see the price go back down.....this has been true for most of my investments and my home........
The only 2 major purchases i accidentally timed correctly are: 1. My car which I purchased in January 2010....the COE now costs more than the total purchase price of my car....... 2. My mizuno mp-58s....when the salesmen mistakenly quoted me a lower price for the clubs and the manager, very begrudgingly, honored the price..........til now, have not seen a sale price that's matched the price i paid.....kudos to GH marina square!
I think COE prices are insane........i can think of a 100,001 things that I'd rather spend on than a piece of paper.......

| COE topic is irritating cos it's mismanagement of vehicle population, from about 2k, 3 years ago to 90k now. Duval S is right, ppl in lose lose situation, government in win win. Now transport minister so busy with SMRT breakdown no time for this.

| With the way the price is going up, I really dont understand the logic behind this. A piece of blady paper shouldnt need to cost an arm and a leg.
If Garmen, want to help to reduce the car population, then do the damn CAR quotation with lottery draw. W-T-F do we have to pay high amount... Its senseless..
The way it goes, this only the rich can afford the car, then this will become elite mentality. | |
