Hi GRians,

Need advise and lobangs from anyone with experience for golf in Manila and Tagaytay..
My friends and I intend to me there 1st April and for a week. Any advise and especially on the following points would be greatly appreciated ..
1) Advise on golf courses to play and of course anyway to get the best price ?
2) We prefer to engage a MPV (or equivalent ) for the 4 of us during our entire trip .. anyone to recommend ?
3) Any non-golfing must visit places when we are there ? Wink
4) Any other advise please also do tell !!

Many thanks for everyones help in advance !!

You MUST try Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club!! One of the most beautiful and well maintained clubs in Manila I have ever played. However, I think it is a members only course, you may need to look around for members to sign you in. It's worth the effort.

St Elena and Southwoods are the better ones. Tagaytay can play both midlands n highlands(there's a par 5 u nid to take a 3 tonner cos buggy deemed too dangerous). Else try eastridge and eastwoods. Not sure which hotel u staying but typically they will rec and can help arrange wack wack. Can forget about Manila CC unless u r the rich n famous. All else fails there is villamore public course near the airport.

Not sure what other advise u nid other than the usual due respect n diligence to the country n its pple...otherwise there's a boy call sammy.

Cheers

If I'm not mistaken, most clubs in Manila (and nearby) charge extra for non-residents. I believe the fees for non-residents was 2x the residents' guest fees.

We went in to the club (Ayala Greenfields) and kept quiet without saying a word. Let our Filipino friends do the talking but a friend slipped out his name in typical Singaporean accent and from then on, we had to sneak around and at the end, out the back door to avoid the receptionist who kept on asking to see our local ID.

The difference was about S$100 or so. We had already paid about S$150 or so (weekend).

artchang00,

It's the case in most courses in the PH. They charge more for foreigners and require them to get buggies as well when sometimes, a trolley would suffice. I was in Cebu over the Easter weekend and I played in Mactan Island Country Club. The price difference was huge for a local (SGD 40) and non-member foreigner (SGD 90).

Thanks for the SQ heads up...USD 88 to carry a golf set each way is insane!

I'm going to Langkawi this weekend and using Silkair. Their website did not say anything specific about golf bags and the call center agent cannot confirm to me yet if there is such a special charge. I hope it's just the baggage allowance that they look at.

Just got word from Silkair...as long as by golf equipment and baggages are under the baggage allowance assigned for my flight/class, there will be no extra charge.
