| A real golfer spends more time playing golf or at the driving range practising than on the internet looking for belts shoes and clubs.
A real golfer rather spend more money on green fees than on new clubs.
Which category do u fall into?
It amazes me that people rather spend $2k on brand-name irons but use these irons to play on $40 mickey mouse courses cos a $150 green fee is "too expensive?"
Or $1k for a driver but stinge on a $100 handicap maintenance annual fee.
Get a feeling I will get flamed for these contraversial statements

| Wow, I like your style. Its just a predominant Singapore culture to invest in "vanity" Examples: 1.People that stay in a HDB flat but buy a big continental car on loan and also always complain about ERP/Parking charges. 2.Buying branded goods/items using credit cards and breaking it into installments. 3.Spending money on branded golf gear but saving money by wearing his children's clothes to play golf (to all the hiao "fitting" jap clothing wannabes you know what im talking about) Don't get me wrong, everyone has the absolute freedom to do what they want with their hard earned money and credit rating Living the Singaporean dream... | |

i am nowhere near a real golfer..so i settled to be an internet warrior......

all jus coffee talk...
real golfers are pros.. most of us are just social golfers..
anyway we all go through phases.. after a while, the buying stops, the set get settled down and game will improve
my coach told me average need 7 years to play the game well for most ppl
my friend has tried all possible shafts, putters, irons, drivers.. he practically knows EVERYTHING about their specs
now he uses normal callaway irons on nspro 850 stiff
and play 79...
so real golfers?????? | |

| I believe I fall into both categories. I'm willing to pay the green fees to play. But I m also willing to pay for a nice expensive golf bag.
But obviously I have my budget.
My game still Chui though.

| I just want to encourage people in this forum to go out and use your set. Don't chase after equipment dream.
Of course work and family comes first. But if u spend more money changing equipment than paying green fees, then you know something is not proportional. Max the use of your clubs!
When the buying stops, the playing/training begins!

| yes, most of us here are social golfers, who try to enjoy the game and make some friends. i think buying the right equipment is more important than to go by brands because each person is different from another one.
those who have extra cash are willing to spend more on equipments. but expensive equipments don't neccessarily make someone play better, unless it is the right equipment for them. buying expensive equipments are just to increase their social status.
everyone has their own opinions.

| it all depends on what you want to derive from playing golf?
For me, it is to entertain overseas clients when they are here in SG, getting my mind off work when I play with my buddies during my occasional free weekends, training myself to be more forgiving to myself, learning to be patient and treat others with respect & courtesy... thus, being a "real golfer" from playing golf is not actually what I want from playing golf
As for spending $$ on golf equipment, it is a good conversational piece whenever I play with my clients or buddies.... for me, this is better than blowing my $$ away on alchohol binges or tips on mindless over-rated KTV Nightclub entertainment here in Singapore...
Just my 2 cents worth

everyone has their own opinions. I second the motion on these one. 98% of most golfers are social golfers. They pick the game of golf to gain something New in their life. New group of friends, New Business contacts, Set up Business deals or plainly just Play to Gamble. Others spend more on equipment. While some spend more on apparels Each to his own. Some prefer to play at the most convenient place & time. Real Golfers are those who gain single handicap. They excel at these skill becoz they put dedication on it

| to me, "real" golfers are those who respect the game by playing with etiquette, and with integrity. Current skill level or how they choose to spend money for this sport are of little relevance to me. This sport/game is for everybody. Pros, expert, beginner, seasoned beginners. Weekend warriors, 3 x 18 a week golfer, business golfers. Casino golfers, chicken shit golfers. Golfers who like orange and pink apparel with loudmouth motifs, or just plain khaki pants and white shirts..golfers who wanna stick with one set, golfers who wanna change set every 6 months. This game is not only for good/skilled golfers or those who aspire to be cheers! | |
