NICKLAUS CHIAM CAPTURE VICTORY AT MELAKA AMATEUR OPEN 2011

Ayer Keroh, Melaka - Nicklaus Chiam of Singapore, overpowered MGA's Elite player, Jeremiah Kim in a play-off to take home the Men Division title after both finished identical 5-over-par 221 tournament total on Sunday.

"It felt good to win any tournament," Chiam said. "It was especially great to win on foreign soil. I am happy to be able to hold off Jeremiah in the play-off as he is a great player. I am looking forward to meet him again in another tournament."

Jeremiah Kim, despite shooting the day's lowest round, a 2-under-par 70, lost to Chiam in a play-off. Third place went to Mohamad Hisyam Majid who shot 3-over-par 75 in the final round for a 10-over-par 226 tournament total. Park Chang Uk, shot 3-over-par 75 to take fourth with 13-over-par 229 for the tournament. Rounding out the top five was Nick Ang who shot 73 at 15-over-par 231.

The Melaka Amateur Open is an annual event that caters to the top amateurs in Malaysia and the neighbouring countries. Since 2008, this event has been included in the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking. Starting this year, this event will serve as one of the qualifying stages of the National Trail 2012 where top 5 men and ladies will be eligible to compete in the Final to be held from January 16-21, 2012 at 3 different courses.
