At first, there was R.rock asking his caddy to go down on all fours...but good for him, this has stopped.....but at the same time...this needs to stop too.....especially irons and drivers shot

Quote :

“It wasn't pretty but it was definitely ponderous. A huge factor in the slowness being the much-criticized need of so many players to have their caddies line them up for both full shots and putts. It is surely time for that time-consuming and often-pointless practice to be outlawed.”

The worst part is some weekend hackers who watched too much golf channel also try to get down and read their putts from all angles, only to over hit or under hit their putt (or read it wrong completely !?!?!)

I'm all for weekend hackers to have a preshot routine, make every shot count. But i've observed some golfers overdoing it when they dun have the skills to execute. Thereby slowing down the pace of play

I agree with pocketace.

There is a difference between being serious and overdoing it. As weekend golfer myself, I make it a point to see the overall green first to get a general idea, then the line and distance for my intended putt. Max 3 practice swing and go.. It is not uncommon to see many amateurs doing it for the sake of doing it and totally lost track of time. Esp those golfers that putt like each putt is worth thousands of dollars!!!!

I think it's all depend on whether you are holding up others or not and depend on situation too.

Scenario 1 - I am in a flight of 4 and was chase by a flight of 3 very closely, shall I just quickly putt and proceed to the next tee?

Scenario 2 - Front flights are very slow and we are seeing incoming flight, can I spend some times to read the green instead or waiting in the next tee for the front flight to tee off?

Will like to hear from all the weekend warrior here....

I am not a weekend warrior but just a Seasoned beginner.....Fm a Seasoned Beginner's point of view....I think common sense should prevail..

S#1: I let the flt of 3 go past me.

S#2: i think we should still stay with the speed....regardless of whether flt front is slow or fast

A faster way (and it is especially advantageous for beginners who are short hitters like me) is to play your normal game.

Since your peers will reach the green at least 1 step faster than you, you will reach the green just in time to see them putt.

Don't 'read' the green, but observe the direction of your mates' balls instead (there's a chance that the balls will be all over the green coming to the hole in varying directions). Then use agakration to figure out how the ball will roll, walk up and just putt it.

Doesn't work all the time, but at least it speeds up play!

Then again, that's me.

What about taking out your gloves to putt? Should weekend warriors with lousy skills do that?

I myself don't remove my gloves becos makes no difference to the end results...3 or 4 putts almost every hole.

Hi Jimmy

IMHO I feel it is a matter of course etiquette.

Scenario 1: 3balls flight should know they move faster than full flight and hence should be more patient. It does not mean being pushed, we should anyhow putt. We all paid the same green fees. As long as I'm playing within the prescribed time schedule, I do not see the need to rush myself.

Scenario 2: I feel it has a snowballing effect. Also, being on the tee may also signal to the flight in front to hasten up the pace.

Much like driving on the road. As long as everyone use common sense and courtesy, it makes this game more pleasurable.

Cheers

Usually I take my glove out after hitting a shot, so by the time I walked onto the green, my glove is already out of my hand long before, I don't waste time taking out the glove only when I reached the green

@ Duval, I'm with you, common sense should prevail.

My mantra is - always be ready to play.
While other people are getting ready to putt / hit a shot, you oughta be reading your line or picking your club / walk towards your ball (whatever, as long as you are not hindering your flight mate)

Hmm~ Some folks say they can get better 'feel', but since I'm not putting for a million dollars or to prove something, nah~ I'll just keep it on.

Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out. Take in, take out.

That's 18 times in total on the above. Shiok meh? I copy & paste also sian~ Much less do the action.

Putt quickly but not any-o-how putt. Agakration, see, 1 practice putt and go. If not, estimate yourself and if the ball comes within a certain radius, consider it as a hole-in already, pick up and move on. Don't have to die-die hole-in every putt.

I'm not too sure about courses in Singapore but in Bangkok, its pretty much your own. Folks won't come up smack your back and say, "Hurry up will ya?!", Caddies remind you that their friends are coming up, you can turn around and see chaps already walking up to their second shot and their next shot is pretty much on the green......

But it depends on how 'thick-skinned' you are to purposely lie down, take off your shoes and walk the green, only to miss a 10 inch putt with a 10 feet trailblazer.....

Hit shorter? Or purposely land bunker or land yourself in a tricky lie to give yourself some additional on-course training? Laughing

1: Let them overtake my flight. i don't like to be pressured by them all the way thru the remaining hole knowing they are "chasing".
2: On the green, take your time but hurry up... Very Happy Finish your putt , free the green for the next better player and wait at the next tee box. Else if it really slow... call clubhouse and inform marshall of slow play.. clown
