| hmmm...correct me if i'm wrong.
I think if we are addressing normally, just like how we address using other irons, then bounce dun really come into play.
Bounce only come into play when we wanted to open up the club face, be it bunker shot or some chipping that required the ball to roll less, then in that case, bounce is importance.
is that correct ? | |

is that correct ? As long as we are making contact with the ground (or sand), bounce comes into play for all clubs. The bounce is like a rudder, determining how deeply the club goes into the ground/sand before it 'steers' the club out again. I know someone who sold off his Miura blades because he was too much of a digger, and the irons did not have sufficient bounce for him for the courses he plays in. For hybrids and woods, turf interaction of the sole is also an important factor.

- bottomline is still the swing that determines everything. If they need to change clubs on different conditions, then i dun think they are really good pros. I think wedges are like one of the most used clubs in their bag and i dun think they will want to change it every now and then.
i think at the level that the pros are playing at, the point of changing clubs between different conditions is to optimize their game, whereas for us, we are too often guilty of blaming our clubs for shots that we don't hit well. i use a 56/14 and 60/10. when i first got my 60/10, i could not hit it well at all, always getting a big divot and only about 30-40m on a full swing. and of course my instinctive conclusion at that time was that the (lack of) bounce was all to blame (since i was already used to my 56/14 which had more bounce). that was over a year ago and i've since managed to develop better ball contact which eliminated that shot i described. looking back, it was really silly.

Its more important to note ball distance from pin AFTER the shot ... am sure you guys do equally well in that department as me, if not better!

Point taken .. though (for my game) 12-14 deg bounce seems rather unnecessary .. if it helped my game I'd def work on it .. but I dont see any advantage gained from such high bounce ... imho

Get SW w 10 deg bounce
Does vokey come in 56/10? Cause i would prefer getting that ... Website suggests they only have 56/8 and 56/11. I guess i could get the latter and grind of a degree or two! http://www.titleist.com.sg/golf-clubs/wedges/vokey-spin-milled.aspx Sorry, I guess I might be off by 1 degree, probably the 56/11, followed by the 56/8.
And yes, it's always useful to grind it to fit your swing just right. Very pro like that. No, I'm sorry and you were right .. 2009 and earlier .. vokey had 56/10 (they dont anymore)! The way I see it .. I can use 60/10 rather well from the bunker, and therefore (if the need arises) 56/10 should not be a problem either .. gives me the option of using my SW in many more scenarios ... I've heard its an extremely versatile club!

I've heard its an extremely versatile club! No pbm. I thought I recalled it was 10 deg. I wonder why 10 deg is no longer available... Anyway, I have since moved on to the Miura black forged wedges, and the 56 deg comes with 9 deg bounce. And yes, it is certainly versatile. The 60 deg LW and the 52 deg AW have their uses certainly. But somehow, 56 deg for me fits into the bell curve of the chipping distances I find myself hitting. It has just the right amount of loft to get the ball up, with just the right amount of check to the get the ball to stop bouncing and roll. 52 will roll out too much, and 60 will check too much. But the feel is the Miura black wedges compared to cast wedges is something else - it is literally a game changer, as in, it will change your short game quite dramatically, esp if you haven't used forged wedges before..

I really need to work on my short game , my scrambling stats are awful! Have finally convinced myself to practice the short game once a week, without fail. My technique is decent, just need to spend some time to get some feel around the greens. - Lee36328 wrote:

My games not there yet , put I envision sometime next year I'll be looking for some serious player irons ... will seek your, and fellow GRs, advice at that point in time! I dont have the will power (nor the financial resources) to keep a new set of irons in the closet for a long period of time (lets say 2 yrs!) till I improve

Do you have a putting mat at home? If not, get one. Practice putting on that mat daily. It helps your short game. After all, a chip is just a putt that flies in the air. I'm serious. - TourSwing wrote:

I understand the limited edition baby blades may be expensive; a more affordable set would be the tournament blade. But I was not referring to the irons. I was referring to the wedges - the forged black wedges. They are not expensive, and they will benefit your short game no end. You can take my word for it.
