PW and AW distance gap Empty
PostSubject: PW and AW distance gap   PW and AW distance gap I_icon_minitimeMon Aug 08, 2011 5:51 pm

I have a problem. My PW is 47deg and can hit 90m.

my 52 deg cleveland cg 14 AW can hit 70m.

This is a 20m gap which is crucial. Since the loft is not the cause of the gap, I suspect the shaft is.

however, if change my AW shaft to the same shaft as my PW, then the same problem occurs where my AW and SW distance is a 20m gap.

Any of you face the same problem?

Am I correct to say the shaft is the problem causing the 20m gap or is my speculation wrong.

Advise please!!! Help!

Go check the loft of the clubs.... Shaft will not have such a big difference in distance.

I'm not sure I follow.

47* - 90m
52* - 70m

What's wrong with that?

Moving between the 20m would require control of the 47*.

I apologize if I'm missing the point. It's after office hours and tomorrow's a holiday Smile

But the loft is 5*. It can't be 10m. It doesn't make sense since a 10m gap is too small. I say a 20-25m gap is about right.

But, then again, I'm not the one playing one under.

So shaft will not aftect the distance that much until the gap is 20m? Hmmm

cos most sets u buy only have until pw. Aw and sw have to buy from off the shelf.

i also have this problem... i'm not sure of my PW loft, but the different btw PW and my 52 is also 20M.

probably because of the different shaft on both clubs, or not hitting the 52 deg properly

I play a 46* (100m) and 54* (70m), and for distances in between, I'll control the 46*.

I also notice that the gap between my PW and Gap wedge is wider as compared to other clubs. For me, I amnot sure what causes the wider gap. My spec.

9i is 39 deg, graphite
Pw is 44 deg, graphite
Gw is 50 deg, steel
Sw is 56 deg, steel

I suppose it is a combination of 2 deg and the graphite vs steel shaft makes a diff. I tried another graphite Gw and the gap seems to improve.

Since I am in this current set up, I just do a 3/4 swing for my Pw if I cannot reach it with my full swing on my gap wedge.

Anyway, I always taught the distance gap between clubs is 10meters???

Cheers

Hi Gray,

My PW, AW, 56 and 60 difference is 20m per club also.

I feel that the question shouldn't be what should I do to fill this gap but what is the crucial distances that you need to attack the pin.

My PW was hitting 120m and 56* was 80m
That's a 40m gap! And I find myself having to limit my swing to hit 100m w my PW very very often. I went out to look for a club that I can use to hit this distance. It may not necessarily be a 52*, it should be a club that u can use to hit that distance with a lot of confidence. You don't just buy a club to cover a distance gap and then find out that you don't use it so often.

So... What distance are u always faced with that u currently cannot hit with confidence with your current arsenal?

For me, 4 deg gap will roughly result in 10m. I think most iron sets come in 4 deg difference too. The clubhead also makes a difference i think cos most wedges are like blade while your irons might be cavity. Nevertheless, a trip to a clubfitter might be the solution.

Ditto. 4 deg gap for me = 10m difference.

@Gray, maybe try bending your PW to 48?

For wedges, try not to bend the loft, cos it is related to bounce and it's better not to disturb the loft-bounce relationship built in the club...

I would advise to practise vary different distance control on different wedges on range, that should solve most of the problem

What's your distance difference between other wedges?
52 vs 56 & 56 vs 60.

20m diff may be abit on the high side.
I second snowman's suggestion, try to vary your 52 loft position during address.
Eg. Push your hand more forward of the ball to de-loft the club face.

Yeah, that's what I thought should happen.

If the gap between the PW and AW is too small, then something is amiss.
