| Here’s the story: Daly pushed his tee shot way right on the par-4 hole, into what the “Shot Tracker” scoring program calls the “native area.” After seven shots, which were all recorded as traveling a negative distance, his ninth stroke was a penalty. From there, he hit into the greenside bunker, pitched out and two-putted for a 9-over-par 13. Sounds easy enough, right? Not exactly.
As Daly walked off the green, he reportedly told playing partner Todd Hamilton in a joking manner, “Put me down for an 18.” Apparently that was taken to heart and for a short period of time his second career 18 was posted on the scorecard.
An official later caught up to Daly, who claimed it was actually an 11, before a rehashing of events in the scoring trailer accounted for two more strokes.
"I heeled it really bad way right, and I really was hoping they wouldn't find it so I'd have to go back to the tee because I got stuck on my first approach when they did find it I'm going how can I get it left so I can take an unplayable because where it was there I would have to go all the way to the maintenance shed which would probably be out of bounds," Daly said of the hole after the round.
"So I hit it a couple times and then took an unplayable, couldn't get it out, hit it again, took an unplayable, couldn't get it out. Then I got it far enough left that I could drop, you know, and then get in the bunker and two-putted for a 13." For the round, Daly posted a 10-over 81, meaning he played the other 17 holes in just 1 over.
John will be in the field for the year’s third major next week at Royal St. George’s.

| The media probably over-emphasised Daly's antics off the course that makes everyone overlook his short game. In his prime in the 90s when he won the PGA and then the British Open not only was his driving crazy long, his touch around the greens was very good. Even now he is known for having soft hands, probably still has a very good feel with the wedges. | |

| More about John, the young and the newbies probably don’t know a lot about him except what they hear.
John was 1st alternate in the 1991 PGA Championship, which is the 4th Golf Major.
As happened Nick Price had to withdraw, so John got called up...
He drove overnight from Arkansas, he has a fear of flying...
He engaged Nicks caddy “Squeaky” Medlan. As he was there with no one to caddy for, and he knew the course..
Squeaky is a story in himself, he had, and died from leukemia, but he caddied till he could not caddy anymore..
So they teamed up the underdog and the sick caddy…. And they won!
John went from zero to hero… unheard of to fame….
He was super long off the tee, hitting the ball to places others had never thought possible... he still is long even by todays standards…
During the PGA there was a rain delay and a storm, a group of spectators took shelter under a tree and it got struck by lightning…
One of the men died…
After the championship and when John knew more he went to visit the family and offer his condolences…
He put 2 of the lightning victim’s children through College….
He did this under the radar, he was not seeking attention, and he just felt sorry for the tragedy…
John cops a lot of flak because of his weight, his private drama’s and his ability to just “give up” when the going gets tough…
But he is a man that cares, and he has won 2 Major Championships, a lot of big name stars have never achieved that!

| there's a story about 2 buddy played golf together. While 1 of them scored the lowest in his lifetime the other one is just the opposite. So the bummer said to the friend. Hey, did you see my bunker shot?...my driver at 8th holes...so on and on...I think i played very well today and the friend replied "you know what, scorecard never lies". | |
