Michael Jackson Dies At 50
Pop star suffered cardiac arrest at his L.A. home.

By Eric Ditzian

Michael Jackson died Thursday afternoon (June 25) at the age of 50 after suffering cardiac arrest, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Reports say the legendary pop singer suffered cardiac arrest at his home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills and was not breathing and had no pulse when paramedics arrived after a 911 call around 12:26 p.m. PT. They administered CPR in the ambulance but were unable to revive him. At the hospital, staff attempted to resuscitate Jackson, but he was unresponsive.

From his early career in the 1970s with his family group the Jackson 5 to his decades-long career as a solo artist, Jackson stood as one of the most successful and beloved pop artists of all time.

The Jackson 5's first single, 1969's "I Want You Back," hit #1 on the Billboard charts, and the Motown group went on to become one of the most popular acts during the '70s with hit singles like "ABC," "I'll Be There" and "The Love You Save."

In 1978, Jackson joined Diana Ross in the big-screen musical "The Wiz," an adaptation of the Broadway musical based on "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." His career as a solo artist took off with 1982's Thriller, which stands as the biggest-selling album of all time. Over the course of his career, with hit albums like Bad and Dangerous, Jackson scored five #1 Billboard 200 albums and seven #1 Billboard Hot 100 singles.

But Jackson's career faltered as he suffered several scandalous legal battles. In 1994, he settled a civil suit stemming from child-molestation accusations. In 2005, he was acquitted on 10 felony counts in a child-molestation trial brought against him, including four counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 and four counts of administering alcohol to enable child molestation.

Still, he released a greatest-hits album in 1995, which hit #1 on the Billboard chart, and embarked on a hugely successful world tour. His 2001 album, Invincible, also reached the top Billboard slot; it would prove to be his final studio album.

At the time of his death, Jackson was gearing up for a comeback, rehearsing for a series of shows in London's O2 arena that would jump-start a world tour, a new album and possibly a movie. In what is believed to be his final public appearance, Jackson showed up at a press conference in London wearing one of his signature quasi-military outfits and announced the initial plan for the concerts. Describing the shows as a "final curtain call," Jackson told the assembled crowd of fans and media, "This is it. This is it! I just want to say these will be my final shows, performances in London. ... When I say this is it, it really means this is it."

On June 9, TMZ caught Jackson sitting in a black SUV. Asked if could still do the moonwalk, his signature dance move, Jackson replied, "Why wouldn't I be able to?"

The singer is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

MJ was one of the all-time greatest pop stars but he did not invent the moon walk dance move.

He was an expert at using it along with other complicated dance steps onstage.

He will be frozen in his cryogenic tomb which he purchased back in the 1980s and (he hopes) revived about 200 years in the future--re-cloned?

The Jackson Five were a major force bringing the Motown sound (Detroit Soul of the 1960-mid-1970s) to mostly-white middle classes listeners. I have driven thru Gary, Indiana (the Jackson's hometown) many times on my way to Chicago.

Like "Thriller'?

Razz

Also, Farah Fawcett (ex-Majors) died from cancer yesterday, but MJ's death overshadowed hers.

Charlies Angels TV show really helped young girls back in the 1970s to feel it's okay to be smart (Kate Jackson), classy (Jaclyn Smith) and sexy (Farrah Fawcett & later Cheryl Ladd) all at once rather than just a bimbo like Daisy Duke (Catherine Bach) of the Dukes of Hazard TV show.

BTW, My current employer's wife looks, behaves and sounds just like Boss Jefferson Davis (JD) Hogg of Hazard County!

Shocked

I think with MJ, his fans/followers are far greater. Also, with FF, many knew that she was facing a losing battle with cancer (which is very sad). I read an article last night that she was already given her last rights so I expected her passing overnight. However, I didn't expect to read about MJ's as well Sad

I had the priviledge to watch MJ's concert when he came to Singapore and performed at the National Stadium. So far, only the Bon Jovi's concert could match the electricity I felt that night, even when the policemen were trying to control the excited crowd.

May he rest in peace and farewell to an icon indeed.

My friend posted this on his FB:

Mr Billie Jean: he's Bad, a Smooth Criminal, a Thriller, so Dangerous.

Neither 'Black' (n)or 'White' but he Heal(ed) The World with his songs.

So let us Remember The Time that Michael Jackson was the King of Pop.

RIP, you're Invincible now

First of all, MJ is definitely the King of POP....no mortal has come close to him since Thriller....my pursuit of perfecting moonwalk was inspired by him....including body pop.....but the fats always get in the way...sigh

Just one question: Do you think Golf inspired MJ when he was wearing one white glove and on one palm only??

Actually, I felt much worse when the main members of Lynyrd Skynyrd (American Southern Rock Band) died in the plane crash. Rossington, Collins and Gains were as great as Perry & Whitford (Areosmith) or Thin LIzzie's two guitarists--precision par exellence in electric guitar playing.

I felt even worse when I learned that Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osborne's guitarist in the early 1980s) was killed in another plane crash. IMHO, Randy would have been one of the greatest hard rock guitarist of all time--eventually surpassing Eddie Van Halen or Yngwee Malmsteen for sheer virtuosity and musical genius.

Sad
