| I'm having a bit of a rant here but this really frustrated me. A new Sec 1 student who has just started training has gone from looking like : Before Worst golf swing to this: After In only 2-3 months. He was a player shooting 90-100 before and today he shot an 82 off the Blue tees at Warren CC in the HSBC Junior challenge which included 30 putts The mother then has the nerve to complain and say that this is not good enough. What the hell! In my opinion he is an over achiever. He is so small in size and only hits his driver around 170m. Some days these parents get me so angry. What to do. I need a beer | |

My wife replied ' hah !!! you also can win money....???? think you better stop going to range once every 2 months and spent more time at home "

| Once I saw a billboard outside a bank in Dunedin and it read: Start your kids young at golf, if they are good at it, they can pay for your retirement! And so I hope.... Both my kids have juz started lessons at Green Fairways | |

These kind of expectation is actually more courter productive than productive. I wont be surprised this kid will actually drop golf altogether bc his parent's expectation is hindering him from enjoying the game.

| Tell the parents to try acheiving that ....what you can't do, don't force onto the children...
RSS,maybe you shud stop teaching the kid, else when he lost interest, they will start blaming you... poor kid.

| what was the parents's expectation? Think they listen to much 'good' advise from other ppl (like that radio advert about how good their kid is and how much they are so like a certain pro).
worst still they could be friends with the parents of the other local young talents and you know how proud these parents can be (sometimes to the detrimental of their kids and other kids)

| RSS,
This one chinese boy? And the mother complained to you?
Sometimes I suspect it is the constant pursue for better results as well as not being use to giving simple compliments. These are not unusal traits.

Some days these parents get me so angry. What to do. I need a beer Chill man. Parents send kids to learn piano to be the next Beethoven. Parents send kids to learn ballet to be the next Anna Pavlova. Parents send kids to learn martial arts to be the next Miyamoto Musashi. Parents send kids to learn golf to be the next Tiger Woods. In short, for materialistic parents these days, its mostly about 'getting results for your investment' where children are the investment pieces. Sad reflection of a materialistic society demanding instant results and instant success these days. Whatever happened to "Just let them enjoy, its all part of growing up."?

| Unfortunately part of growing up these days is getting use to being pressured to overachieve.
If you're not overachieving, you're underachieving.

| Hey guys
Maybe the original post wasn't clear but the parent isn't pressuring the kid, rather she is having a go at the coaching.
She has been skeptical about the RSS since the start. I think the improvement in such a short time is well beyond what I would have expected from this boy however the mother still not happy.
I'm ready to tell them to look for a new coach.

I'm ready to tell them to look for a new coach. From triple digits down to double digits and its still 'not good enough'? Is she expecting her son to turn into a Scratch Player in a short time? I can't even drive beyond 125 yards for goodness sake.

| hmmm Mistake made by Parents = bad experience for kid = reprimanding of kid by parent so ... If a parent makes a mistake .... might as well just scold the kid straight away ?

I'm ready to tell them to look for a new coach. Mate, it is not just the parents, there are many students that think golf is so easy. Watch TV they all shoot underpar, it must be simple. Then when it does not happen in 2 lessons they look for another coach. In all my years I have only once told a student to go to someone else and refunded money... That was because she knew she could not win Monthly Medal but knew she was playing well, so delibratley 6 putted last hole so her handicap would not go down for next event... I gave her cash on the green and said bye bye... Bottom line, mate you know you are doing it right, if they cannot see that now... you know with some of the coaches out there... if they change they soon will!
