hi all

I m newbie here. Please advise me which should I get... a PC or a handicap.

Depending how you want to collect your score cards for handicap. If you want to play locally to collect, then you need a pc. If in malaysia, then collect the score cards then take handicap test. Most importantly is safety on course and some basic understanding of the rules and regulations.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe you'll need a PC before you can get a handicap.

It's been a long time for me so my memory is hazy. Please forgive me if I got this bungled up. Uncle is old liao.

No need, can take handicap test without pc.

During my time (many many years ago), we had to obtain a PC (Proficiency Certificate) from the Club Pro. Naturally, this means having to take lessons ( I think I took one lesson only) from the Pro. Basically, the PC is like a L Licence that you are granted after having gone thru the basic rules, ettiquette, safety issues with the Pro. With a PC, you are then allowed to play on the course accompanied by another golfer who has a valid handicap and who will be responsible for your behaviour on course. While playing as a PC holder, we would collect sufficient score cards and submit these to the Pro and arrange for a courtesy round handicap test. If the Pro is satisfied with your level of play, he then gives you a handicap i.e. your actual license. With the handicap, you can play on the course without being accompanied and you are responsible for your own actions.

many local courses (NSRCC) dont take PC only handicap

Hmmm hmmm... scratch

Is there a choice to skip PC altogether and go straight to h'capping....?? Pros here can shed some light on this??

Nsrcc does take pc if your pc is from nsrcc
