PostSubject: Handicap    Handicap I_icon_minitimeThu Jul 12, 2012 10:01 pm

I obtained my PC last December. meaning that it will expire very soon. I think it is not worth for me to renew it even though I am using it to play MBGC during weekdays.

I am a beginer, can hit the ball most of the time, but direction cannot control well.
my score is terrible, double par all the way with maybe 2 or 3 lucky bogey in a game.

I met my coach one day and he told me that I can go to him for handicap test. and high chance will pass seeing my swing.

Is it true that he told me to take another 3 lessons with him and go for the test it will pass?
will he be the only person assessing me?

The sad truth is... there is no such thing as handicap test.. even if there is, it is not well regulated within Singapore.

For taking a Handicap, just collect 5 score cards and engage any clubs that is affiliated with Singapore Golf Association (i.e. MGK, SGA etc) They will require that you book a 'courtesy round' NOT handicap test. They usually charge about $100+ for the courtesy round (excluding green fees) This basically for them to observe that you know the golf rules and etiquettes, not so much on golf proficiency.

Once they deemed that you are ok (which I would say 99.9% they would), you will need to pay a yearly maintenance fee to maintain your handicap card... usually in the range of $100+. Some might have additional fee for 1st time registration.

Your handicap index is strictly determined by the scores submitted in the 5 score cards I mentioned earlier.

So take what lesson? what handicap test?.... milking you more like it.... Laughing

SSG refers to Society of Singapore Golfers, one of the Associate Members of the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) that is licensed to issue USGA Golf Handicaps.

Please note that only clubs registered with the SGA as members (and pass the audit) are licensed to issue USGA Handicaps in Singapore. There are basically 2 types of SGA membership for golf clubs, Ordinary (for clubs that own or operate golf courses/country clubs) and Associate (clubs that are "estateless").

Ordinary Members of SGA include all your golf and country clubs, e.g. OCC, NSRCC, SICC, TMCC etc etc

Associate Members of SGA include my golf kaki (MGK), Golf Allianze (GAZ), SSG, etc etc

For more details on which clubs are licensed, visit SGA page to understand more.

CityType, you mentioned your pro is testing you, but which club will your handicap be issued under?
