A lot of us struggle with the dreaded slice, and that can be a result of many things working wrong, resulting in the face being open at impact.

I got this drill from the net and maybe it can help you.

==============================================================

"Setup to a ball with a 6 or 7 iron, but before hitting it place a
headcover (or something similar) under your left armpit (right
armpit if you're a left hander).

Then once you have this setup then swing back and through with a
3 quarter swing.

Now doing this drill will give you great feedback as to whether
or not you're releasing the club through the ball correctly.

How?

Because if the headcover falls down from your armpit at any stage
of your follow through that means your left arm has separated from
your body and this is preventing your hands from releasing through
the ball properly - costing you both distance and accuracy.

So if the headcover falls down simply keep swinging until the
headcover stays under your armpit the entire 3 quarter swing.

When it does you should feel your left arm folding in just after
impact and your right arm rolling over. And this is exactly what
should be happening, so just keep doing this drill over and over
again to make this a habit."

great tip Smile

Personally, I use this quite a lot when im hitting balls to the right.

For me, it allows me also rotate my forearms at impact and post-impact, allowing for better compression and hence more distance!

hey dude.

I agree. Must focus very consciously of the rolling over of the arms at impact. Slicers are usually way too open at impact, even when they try to square it. The reason why its so hard to do is its this action happens in a split second!

haha if u are there elbry, put the towel under ur left arm-pit.

then make sure that the inside of your left hand starts to face the sky immediately after impact, whilst keeping the towel firmly stuck under ur arm. if u do it right, u're gonna see some cool and powerful hooks.

Remember the feeling after using this drill for maybe 5-10 shots.

Then remove the towel, and try hitting shots with the SAME FEELING. your balls wont hook so much anymore. but u'll realize u're compressing your balls a whole shit more! Smile pardon the faeces language.

Yo, just got back from the driving range..today was a bad day, totally lost feeling of hitting the ball for the first 120 balls...only got it 80% right for last 40 balls and tried abit of the drill, didnt have enough balls to get the FEELING totally...
sian.

It does feel wierd initally though, when I put the towel under my left armpit, feel so restricted...

another good way to cure slice is swinging with both feet together.

When able to hit the ball, try hitting ball with right foot a step back.

I find this drill is good for guys that have faster lower body and hands cannot catch up.

ok! I try to make time.

btw, is our left thumb an integral part of the release? E.g. pushing with the thumb during release?

left thumb is partially impt, it has to be on the right side of the grip. but more importantly is the left wrist has to be arching forward at impact.

able to explain further?

ah i might have used the wrong word... the magic word is bowed! as tiger would put it. the left wrist should be bowed back at impact, which in another perspective, is the same as arching forward. show u at the range la

Quinike, you and I both know that its quite difficult for mere mortals like us to achieve that position right?

Still a good visual thought.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this drill may cause more problems than it cures.
It sounds good in theory but in practice, what it does is gets your arms and shoulders moving in the wrong direction and causes the body to tilt. As your arm is stuck to your body they will move away to far inside
Check your release with this drill...‏ Paul10

Check your release with this drill...‏ Paul_f10

If I move my arms and body correctly, the wood cover will fall out on the back swing.
Check your release with this drill...‏ Paul_b10

The only way to fix the slice is to fix your down swing path, then the arms can release correctly.
