Short Game Philosophy

We all have heard that the short game is important etc...makes up for 50-70% of your scores.
How about talking a little bit of your philosophy.

No right or wrong answers here...just interested to know what golfers are thinking.

My philosophy:

1) Use my short game as little as possible. My short game is to save a bad day and not for use EVERY round. There is no reason why one with the proper mechanics cannot hit it where one aims.

2) Know the yardages a certain swing with a certain club produces. I want to chip and pitch with robot like precision. Feel comes in only when I am deciding what shot to play.

3) Putt, chip, pitch and lob - in that order of choices.

Can you please elaborate on "the magic of the right fore arm"?

When I aligned my right fore arm to the shaft plane at address, I always hit draws and hooks, What did I do wrong?

I would say:

1) Check your lie angle when you utilise this procedure.
It is likely to be too upright after your alignment.
This procedure tends to work better with flatter clubs.

2) The purpose of aligning the right forearm is simple but elegant.

From down the line view, the RF and Club are on the same
plane line. The club actually is an extension of the RF. If you
control the RF, you control the club shaft.

If you can control the club, you control the ball. When that
happens, you control the course. And that will be magic.

For my personal game, I am first of all , pretty short off the tee and also, not a strong long iron hitter..eg. .....therefore acknowledging all these shortcomings...I no choice but play layup approach for most holes eg. par 4>380m.
So short game to me is pretty important as that decides whether I get bogey, par or anything worse.
One thing I did learnt from my last game with the better players was the importance of lie...nowadays, I don stick to one wedge but actually bring 2 wedges to the next shot and depend on the lie, decides which to use.....

Hey TGM, good advice. Could you please clarify the differences between chip, pitch and lob?

A chip is a stroke where the left wrist does not cock.
A chip stroke becomes pitch when the left wrist starts to cock.
The resultant uncocking on the downswing increases swing
velocity which contributes to the longer and higher trajectory.
A lob is a special variant of the pitch except that the clubface
lays back during impact - I.e. Flipped through impact.
