Hi,

What is the difference between a hybrid and fairway wood of similar (+/- 1 deg) / same lofts?

And what would be the reason for selecting the hybrid over the fairway wood and vice versa?

Curious..

To me, in a nutshell,

a. both give me around the same yardage (e.g. 19* will go around 200m)
b. teardrop shaped hybrids (e.g. titleist 585H) are easier to hit than FW as I see them more as irons than woods
c. hybrids slide through rough more easily than fariway woods. if you find your ball at the bottom of a 'birds nest', a hybrid will have a better chance of getting it out as compared to using a FW

just wanna add...

Fairway woods are longer than hybrids.

Hybrids are more forgiving and easier to hit.

Lastly, HyBrid "bites" better than Fw upon reaching the green
