Re: Good golf books Empty
PostSubject: Re: Good golf books   Re: Good golf books I_icon_minitimeFri Nov 16, 2012 10:15 am

I have just finished these 2 golf books. The Scientific Truth Of the Golf Swing was 1st review when I was in BF and spend a hour reading it. I finally manage to get a copy myself.

Every shot must have a purpose was recommended by a friend.

Both books was not focusing on how to swing but rather on the 6" between the ears. I found very interesting and gave me a different prospective in how I look at the game of golf.

I am looking for more golf books but not on those on how to swing but rather managing, metal games .. etc

Any recommendation ?

Golf in the Kingdom (Michael Murphy)
Extraordinary Golf (Fred Shoemaker)

Just a couple quick ones that are pretty good.

Bro nicasio,

I think it is a typing error. You mean Slicer51 not my Shi-Xiong Slinger. Slinger do not need this as he already very good with his mental game.

Btw, thanks for the recommendation Beer

I chanced upon "The Elements of Scoring" by Raymond Floyd at those used books sale. I find it to be a short and concise book covering the overall game strategy as well as nuggets of valuable tips on how to handle each step of the game from the tee to the greens... i enjoy reading it before games to 'tune' my mind..

Here another good golf book that I have;

Quote " When body and mind are synchronized for a golf swing, they are unified in purpose, presence, and focus. They are functioning in the same place at the same time.

If your mind is anywhere but “in your body” then body and mind are out of sync. If you mind is thinking about your swing, you are thinking, not swinging.
Worry about how a shot will turn out can also interfere with the synchronization of the body and mind "

" - Intuitive Mind

Intuitive is a kind of knowing without thinking or analyzing. Intuitive mind is the basis of habits. What’s referred to as “muscle memory” isn’t on the muscles; the memory is in intuitive mind.

There’s a story that a worm asked a centipede how it moved all those legs on the right order. As soon as the centipede though about it, it got all tangled up and couldn’t move. Golfer describes themselves as thinking about so many things to do (or not to do) that they feel mentally twisted up like a pretzel "

Caddy for Life - great story of Tom Watson's caddy, Bruce Edwards
Miracle on the 17th Green - good story about a man who tries to go pro
7 Days in the Links of Utopia - excellent book about golf and life
The Match - story of the greatest money match between Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Ken Venturi and Harvie Ward
Paper Tiger - a man's quest to play with the pros

My favorites by far are:

Play Your Best Golf Now - Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott
Extraordinary Golf - Fred Shoemaker
Extraordinary Putting - Fred Shoemaker
The Inner Game of Golf - Timothy Gallwey
Quantum Golf - Kjell Enhager
Fearless Golf - Dr. Gio Valiante
The Talent Code - Daniel Coyle

The Rotella stuff is good and Joe Parent's stuff is good and to be honest, they all deliver the same messages about improved performance on the golf course.

The Talent Code (and there have been many others written on the same topic) will explain exactly what steps are necessary in order to make lasting improvements to anything you do and will likely explain to most golfers why they they haven't improved they way they think they should given how much time they have put into practice.

If you are going choose one book I would recommend Play Your Best Golf Now by Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott. With this book they have basically taken all of the best info and ideas that you would find in pretty much every book mentioned in this thread and turned it into what they call the 8 Essential Playing Skills. I could go on and on but I won't, I will just say get this book because it will make you a better more complete, happier, golfer faster than any other book will. Period.

Last year I spent 4 days with Pia and Lynn and they had a profound impact on me both professionally and personally and I truly believe that they are the best of the best golf coaches on the planet.

Enjoy!

I second Quantum Golf. Amazing book. Might have to get another copy. Really easy read and it is quite helpful on the mental side of the game.

Books like Extraordinary Golf or Quantum Golf would give most players a whole new perspective on playing the game and quite likely reshape your understanding of course / game management.

Those two books would definitely do the trick
