7 Wood

Hi

i have some trouble with 3 and 5 fairway woods off the deck.
Was thinking of trying a 7 wood.
Iam OK with my 5 Hybrid.
Has anyone had any sucess with a 7 wood?

if u have trouble with 3 and 5 i doubt 7 would be any much easier for u.. perhaps revisit your swing and continue trying with the 5 woods?

7w is a 3i replacement at 21deg

The best i have used so far is macgregor mactec with fujikura

I've enjoyed using a 7 wood ever since I took up golf, even using it to tee off when i first started as I couldn't handle a driver.......but recently replaced it with a 3H.....the main difference is that a 7 wood has a higher loft (about 22*) but longer shaft v. a 3H that has a shorter shaft and stronger loft (19*)......if you're having trouble getting the ball in the air, it may mean that you don't have the swing speed to use a low lofted club so 7 wood is the better bet.....but if it's consistency that's the problem that I suggest you go with the 3H with the shorter shaft.......

If you're looking for a hybrid I strongly recommend the RBZ hybrid....it's got a heavier head and I find it easy to hit.....

Im pretty consistant with my 3H.

will thr be a difference in distance btw that and the 7W?

having some problems with the Woods actually.

Does that mean a 2H cn replace a 3W or 5W?

For me, the 3H goes the same distance as my 7W (about 180m)......I haven't tried the 1H or 2H but I guess it can replace the 3W/5W......for players who struggle with distance and accuracy like myself, I use the hybrid more for my second shot on par 5's rather than trying to hit the green from 180m and further......I hardly ever take the 3W out of my bag....so many bad things can happen with a FW in my hands.......

seriously contemplating getting a 2H instead.

My 3H is getting better distance and flight than the R11 3W i tried.

Going for the consistency route rather than distance. haha

Actually a 4H is abt 21/22 deg if u want to used a 7 wood why not consider that.

Just a word of caution about 1H and 2H, they are really pretty hard to launch off the deck (at least for me).

Also, I believe there is a correlation between clubhead speed and the minimum loft of club that you can hit off the deck to optimise distance. But I guess once you throw in all the variables related to club design, all that goes out the window.

I think I have a 15deg hybrid somewhere that I can let you try if you have the time to come to MBGC ...

or a case of alcohol deficiency withdrawal symptoms...

IMHO, some hybrids worked better if you hit down on them slightly.. similar to hitting irons. However, you cannot do that with FW. Maybe thats just me..

As a rough guide:

A sweeping swing (a very shallow divot or barely graze the grass) would get better results with woods.

A steeper swing (deep divot with a long gouge out of the earth) would benefit more from hybrids.

In other words, if you are a good iron player, hybrids would be a better match than woods.

And I agree with Derek, equally lofted woods and hybrids does not mean equal ease of use.

Another rough guide: Any club numbered 1 or 2, be it wood, hybrid, or iron, is the hardest to use in its category, especially off grass alone.

Personally, as someone with a slower swing speed of 85mph, I find that I gain better distance with 3 and 5 woods than with a 1 or 2 hybrid which require a higher swing speed to launch. The hybrid I play has a loft of 22 deg, which I feel has optimum utility for me out of the rough and off the fairway.

Best way to figure out which is better for you is to try a combination of woods and hybrids in different loft configurations, since every individual has his or her own unique swing.

There are two types of hybrids. One that looks more like a wood, the other that looks more like an iron.
I'll leave you to guess which one works better hitting down.

The design differences are deliberate.

Well, I come to this conclusion due to the "still on the way" journey of Iceberg's hunt for her ideal hybrid. I think by now, she has tried at least 4 different hybrids (she owns hybrids of both design type) during the range and game sessions. I figure she prefers the "hitting down" type which works better for her..
