- Ladies, Gentlemen,
I say this not to be a wet blanket. But with the recent events that have happened to Toonshouse forum, I think it is more important to protect this forum from intrusions rather than thinking of a name.
From my perspective, these acts of intrusions or hacking could be likely linked to animosity or even enmity. These negative feelings could have been the result of built up anger or frustration stemming from disputes that have occurred in the past. We may not be able to find the culprit. We may never will. But prevention is better than cure.
Having said everything, I would like to urge everyone here to exercise a little more discretion when we speak. If this is a community that we hold dear, makes us feel comfortable and relaxed, then let's do things to stay that way. Openly policing others' threads, sometimes to the point of nitpicking, does not go well for many people. Polite Personal Messages, emails, SMS and gentle reminders serve the same purposes too.
Finally I applaud the efforts of the surviving members from Toonshouse to resurrect the community. The people that started this singaporegolfers forum have worked very hard and deserve a round of applause.
Let us learn from this episode and move on. We can preserve this.....
GolfersParadise
. makes alot of sense....i am sure sunny will have his defence perked up on those intrusion. never the less, better be safe than sorry.... however i think the attack on TH was random and not specifically targetted. if tis intentional, its not just an offence but an offence with criminal intentions. any IT experts out there...i know that Khorkar, Xmen and Rocky are IT specialist. maybe should have a IT committee to protect this against all invasion. | I'm afraid I don't see what the preservation of the name "Golfers Paradise" has to do with an attack on Toonshouse. Like Eric said, the latter was random. I know, I'm new to Toonshouse so my opinions may not be of as much value but I reckon that now is as good a time for a new start as any. So, selecting a new name for the forum makes good sense to me.
On the issue of attacks, whether we use "Golfers Paradise" or any other name, we run the same risk. I appreciate the need to be careful with what is posted online but again, I don't think the attach on Toonshouse was instigated by what was on it (at least, I have no reason to believe so).
Regardless, a fresh start with a fresh name and a fresh theme makes good sense. It's like a rise from the ashes (almost phoenix-like - please no Golf Phoenix type names). It gives everyone a fresh perspective too and perhaps, that's the value in starting from ground up.
My 2 cents. | |

| this forum has tape back up which can restore the forum to its original state at any given date. Hope this would ease some worries. | |

| How about consideration to take this forum private rather than making it readable by public? Only registered members and with proper email verified can posted.

| then who would join?
it is not a good idea to have protected or private forum
only when you have things to HIDE then you dare not say it out in public

| I guess Sunny has a point. Since this is an open and friendly forum discussing mostly golf-related subjects, there is no harm to let guests read all the topics. After all, when they see that the atmosphere here is pretty friendly, then it might prompt them to sign up and join in the posting fun. | |

hi Khorkar, this is a good suggestion in my opinion. however the forum is still new and the number of members is not big enuff to be private. we need to open up all topics to everyone, so that (hopefully) they are attracted to join and participate. fyi, the current restrictions that are implemented: - NOT allowing Guest to post - ONLY signed up members can post - NO external script or javascript is allowed in all posts there might be more that sunny has implemented that i may not realised, but thats the list in general. really appreciate all the help/advice/suggestions.. u all made the forum a success... u guys are just so lovely~~

| My 1.5 cents:
We should keep it public as I recall, the primary aim of this is to build and contiously build a community of existing golfers, aspiring golfers, soon-to be golfers so as to share the beauty of the game... BUT at the end of day, common sense must prevails...if have very personal opinion that's sensitive, then use the PM function and if you cant stand the comments, don log in lor. And if there is a need to really put some guidelines, then maybe we can apply the following:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

| i totally agree. It is seeing how much fun that everyone is having that would prompt new users to sign up.
if you protect the forum, a user who come in by chance would never bother to join since they cannot see the contents and they do not know if it is worth the effort to sign up.
Who knows it could be just a bunch of ppl posting personal classified ads inside...
And it would also appear that we could be badmouthing others etc or saying things that should not be heard in public
lastly, it would make us look like a snobbish clique.
I favour a more open and friendly model

| Let me correct my statement about "Private". The intent is only to allow registered members to view and post. Members would still be free to post whatever they want to. By having a register population, we can avoid guest and anonymous readers. | |

| Bro S70B, After decoding, here is the simplified version.....give more than receive, if ppl 'sabo' you, don angry, pardon them.
Many times easier said than done...but it's always good to know if one wants to be out of bounds in the things one does, one at least know how far out of bounds one am.

Having only registered users view and post is already private. A public user who come in will not be able to view any post and thus would not be interested to join the forum.

| i think readable for all ppl (memb or not) is okay but posting will be strictly for members. (we need to account for things we post, if not it will run out of hand sooner or later) | |

| Some forums only allow guests to reply to existing threads and not post new threads until they've amassed a couple of posts (e.g. 10). I'm not sure if this is useful but worthwhile considering nonetheless. | |

this would allow people to come in and spam the forum with useless or even offending messages.

| Agree.. that we should keep this forum open to all to show people that there are a bunch of fun loving golfers in Singapore who are ready to embrace all kind of golfers be it beginners, pros and etc.
Once again... thanks Sunny for setting up this wonderful place:)
